Oil catch can question.

This may sound like a dumb question but the oil that the can catches, is there anything wrong with it? Why not put it back in the crank case as long as you change your oil regularly?

It's already done in Mexico but they have a special filter they run it through before putting it back into the crankcase.

I had one on my supercharged m3, and the amount of oil caught over time was so mimimal, that it wasnt really worth putting back in.

where did you get that one? How would it be connected up in the 55? Looks like a DYI project.

It is made by AMW and distributed by Midwest. I removed the surge tanks to install phenolic spacers......the heads and surge tanks had quite a bit of wet oil accumulation and i only have 9k on the car.

This oil gets in the intake tract and dilutes the air/fuel charge and causes detonation.

When I took my surge tanks and TB off there was oil in both. If Finny's gunk build up is from that, it's scary to me for my engine. According to Vrus there are two breathers, not just the one to the TB base. Two cans?

When Victor was trying to install his AMW can he had trouble with the hose and fitting sizes, too small. I wonder if there were enough of us for the E55 if they would make the can to our needs?

Great idea. Visual people with limited mechanical knowledge but reasonable hands will need lots of pictures for the instal.

I have seen the one going to the throttle body.........where is the other? Typically one hose is under VACUUM and connected from the PVC valve to a VACUUM source like the intake manifold..... and the other hose is connected somewhere to the intake air tract so to pick up incoming fresh air to replace the air removed by the PVC valve in the crankcase. So you have one sucking the crankcase gases out and the other provides the fresh filtered air needed to the crankcase.......so you have air constantly being removed and replaced..... recirculation in the crankcase.........so only one catch can is needed...

That sounds good to me. I want to see if AMW will make a can that fits our hoses. I would also want the fittings to be the same ID as the fittings for the current hose so there would be no restriction. Don't want to match the hose ID only to restrict it with a smaller ID fitting.

I found the make up air.......does any one where the PCV valve and hose is located?
