Satellite Antenna on the trunk
I'm looking at a used E55 that has everything I want but it has a satellite radio antenna on the trunk and I hate it. Can it be safely removed? Dealer indicated probably not. I don't think I'm going to make the deal unless the antenna can be removed because it really bothers me.
Any comments?

After researching further it looks like a hole is more then likely put in the trunk. Unless they consider installing a smaller color keyed antenna at no cost, I'm not going to even consider doing the deal.

sounds like youre looking at one of the first antennas that look like a hockey puck and are the color of black plastic. the newer cars do come with one that is much smaller and they are painted the same as the car.

I have it also... and do hate it. I'm currently doing some research... I posted a thread in the audio forum and came into conclusion that replacing it w/ a smaller one seems to be doable but may impair the connection - the hockey puck has 2 wires, while the newer one only has 1 wire.
I rarely hear my Sirius so I think I'm going to do it... it'll cost me between $100-$150. The install, I heard, is an easy DIY job.

I replace the smaller white antena and it looks much better . you gonna get new antena and adapter ( forgot what they call ) .I will get the part # for you . It won't take long maybe around 30 mins , both of them will cost $140 or 150

Thanks for the replies.
Yep it is the hockey puck on the trunk. It looks terrible. I did find some older threads showing the smaller one which looks to be a big improvement. Now I just need to decide if I can live with the smaller one. The car is 2 hours away from me and the first one that I have found in a few months within driving distance that matches most of the things I want.

Is the adapter included? If not, what is the part # for the adapter?
I also heard that the new one only has one wire. So does this adapter is 2-to-1 wire adapter?
I'm getting excited here as one actually did it on the same car as mine.

If the antenna is too much for you and the performance of the E55 dose not overshadow that item, well to each their own.

Made the deal on a 05
Antenna Update:
Dealer put on the smaller antenna for me as part of the deal. I was very happy with the smaller antenna so I went ahead and made the deal.
05 - Brilliant Silver with pano, act/ven seats, lighting, pano, trunk, and nav
(This is exactly what I was looking for)
The car was CPO with only 10k miles and spotless except for a few scratches on the rims. I traded in my 05 C55 with 27k miles as well. All I can say is that the C55 is no comparison. The E55 is just a beast all the way around and I really enjoy the performance wrapped in luxury.

Congrats!!!!
Whoah.... could you check w/ the mechanic who will do the antenna swap? Please get the part # and the adapter part #. And please inform whether you have any connection issue.
Or once you've got the car, if you could take a picture underneath the trunk...
