Supercharger "chirp" fix?

Dropped off my car for an oil change and left a note about the supercharger "chirp". I told the S.A. that I had read that it was probably the clutch pack.

Picked it up this morning, and the slip says that the S/C was operating normally. But they repaced the belt and the idler pulley because the belt was worn. I didn't hear the chirp when I drove it home.

For those with a persistent chirp, this might be the fix.

"Problem" is that the new idler pulley looks very different from the other pulleys. Anyone who doesn't know better will look under my hood and assume that I put a new pulley on the car to increase boost. I will have to carry my printout from the dealer to explain the different pulley. Lest people call BS when I tell them that it is stock.

I truly hope that it is a permanent fix for you, but would guess that it will be back within 100 miles. The "chirp" resides in the clutch pack and replacement is the only known permanent cure. Keep us posted if it is still gone 1-2 months from now, or if it comes back.

Mine was in for the chirp 3-4 times before the S/C was entirely replaced w/ the new version, which has been trouble free for a couple of months and several thousand miles.

Anyway we could get you to snap a pic or 2 of the new pulley?

Sounds great. Gonna harass my tech this week.

They did not touch the clutch pack. They replaced the idler pulley. I think it is part number 113-202-04-19

Sorry about that. You already mentioned it prior. I was wondering if anyone had the part number for the actual clutch pack if there is one. Part 8 in the pic is shown as a Flange Repair Kit and part 10 is listed as a Flange. Both are about $900 retail, but I couldn't find specifics on the clutch itself. thx.

I picked up a 2004 E55 a few months ago and it has a hesitation and a chirp at the same time.... I was wondering if this is what you are refering to?

Thanks,

2003 E55 K1+ Throttle body
I noticed this about a month ago. My 2003 E55 has 29,000 miles now and the chirp just started. I took it in to the dealer and they said it is a normal occurrence with the s/c engine. I contended that from the posts I read here there are measures to take to eliminate the chirp. They passed me off by saying Merecedes doesn't feel that it is a problem that needs attention and that I should live with the noise. Should I persist? It really gets annoying especially when the windows are down.

Depends on how annoying you find it. To tell you the truth, it never really bothered me. I only mentioned it to the dealer because my car was in the shop anyway for a $150 oil change.

Chirp is still there

Took the car out today for the first time since I drove it home from the dealer on Saturday. The chirp is there. Maybe I didn't hear it over the A/C on Saturday.

For those of you hounding your S/A's for a new idler pulley to solve the chirp problem - don't bother.

chirp is there, even after the dealer changed the idler pulley.

At first it was not as loud, but now the bird is back in full force.

Also, with the ASP pulley, it makes it a bit worse. You have a louder chirp and occasional belt slippage.

The clutch does not have to be replaced. It just needs to be reshimmed. The noise occurs because the clutch takes to long to engage. Set the clearence a little tighter and the noise should clear up.

I had mine re-shimmed, shim removal, stop squeal, etc. The chirp ALWAYS came back. Nothing worked short of clutch replacement. Now life is good again and has been for months.

How many miles did you have on the vehicle when the clutch got reshimmed?
Usually if it is done early enough replacement is not necessary.

I personally like the chirp
