Effects Of Removing Clear Pra

Everyone I asked seem to confirm that if it is not professionally removed (preferably by a reputable shop), then you'll damage the paint...

I thought 3M film does not discolor so fast??? I was under the impression that it lasts 3 to 5 years before any dis-coloration takes place

I hate the stuff for that very reason. You can do it yourself, but you need to know what you are doing and be very patient. If you aren't, then take it to a shop and have it done right. It takes a great deal of time. Make sure you losen up the adhesive (heat) and then let it cool and come back and buff the hell out of everything. You want that area to get blended back in with the rest.

Wish I could offer some advise, but have never dealt with it. Only thing I can think of is to search for the 3Ms product page.

I just took off a year old front 3M bra,,,it only saw the light of day for about 6 of those 12 months. It has already yellowed. Thankfully it left no glue at all behind. I don't know why it went so quickly but it looked like crap. Doesn't show real well since it was overcast here today.

I have had 3M for over a year and half now, mostly in Chicago. No yellowing. I was told never to use petroleum products on it and polish it with Plexus plastic cleaner. Maybe that has made the difference.

We had the same installer I think DSC..I used Plexus religiously. Install was flawless...I don't know what went wrong but it was noticeable so off it goes...I may ask the installer if its got any warantee.

3M product's come off best when they are heated up. The best thing to use is a heat gun, just don't stay in one spot to long or it will melt it. If you don't have a heat gun a hair drier and some patience should do the trick.

WoW it did turn yellow. I had mine on my last mercedes for 4 yrs & it never yellowed. Have had it on our white Escalade for 3 yrs & no yellowing. Before I got rid of the 4 yr old car I wanted to pull it off to see if it truly did save the front end & it did indeed. However it was a complete bi-#$* to remove until I figured I needed to use a heat gun. I still have complete faith & installed it on my new E. Even did the windshield with a new product called clearplex. Just make sure you heat it up prior to removal.

vader: I had mine installed perfectly and now is 2 yrs. old with no color change. Mine never sees rain of snow and is winterized like yours-this is a very unusual story, must have a warranty,No? Joker

I would definitely call the installer, something went wrong.
