Picked up a SINN AMG 956

I was looking for a new casual watch and fell in love with this Sinn. It was extreamly hard to find but I located one at a Watch Dealer in Germany it was taken in on trade from one of his collectors. It was never worn and gorgeous. The Overall quality and cratsmanship is excellent. It came with a leather band and a SS band, however I chose to use a thicker Mario Paci band.

I really like watches but I rarely look at anything other than Rolex and Tag's,only because thats the main 2 brands I like is all.So Im not very familiar with other brands and their qualities.

Thats a good looking watch, can anybody give me some details on it,background, price etc? What other brands would you compare this quality too? What size would the case be(mm)?

It's hard to beat the resale value of a rolex that's for sure.
I also agree it's a very nice looking watch.

I have a Rolex and Panerai I am just adding to the collection.

Sinn is a German Botique Watch maker. Of course everything is made by hand. The brand has gotten to be very trendy lately as their price points are relativley inexpensive.

Some details on this watch:
Retail price was about $4K
250 pieces made
Satin finish Stainless steel
Saphire Crystal front and back
41.5 mm Case
22mm between lugs
Modifid Valjoux 7750 with power reserve module
25 Jewels and 28800 vibrations per hour
Chronograph range 12 hours
42 hour power reserve

Great watch! Sinn is by far my favorite watchmaker! Simple, German, low production #'s & Overbuilt. Most people not into watches have never heard of them. However, they are growing in popularity.

Here are 2 that I wear all of the time:

Sinn U1 (one of the best dive watches imo ever made) It is a work of art.(in a minimalist kind of way) The fit and finish is amazing. The U1 is designed to be virtually impervious to water penetration. The U1 case is made from the same steel that is also used in the construction of the outer hull of submarines. The steel was by procured by Sinn from a steel supplier to Emden GmbH, one of Germany’s North Sea shipbuilding yards who construct submarines from the very same steel. This submarine steel is not only extraordinarily sea water resistant (PRE value up to 38), it possesses also the highest anti-magnetic quality. Another main advantage of this steel that Sinn’s Tegiment technology could also be applied where the submarine steel can be hardened on up to 1500 Vickers. Compared to regular 316 L stainless steel which is hardened to approximately 220 Vickers.

Because of the special steel used from the submarine steel manufacturer, the case resists the effects of exposure to salt water and salt water environments. Tegimented bezel.

The uni-directional ratchet operated rotating bezel is also milled from this submarine steel. The indices are machined directly into the bezel without the use of bezel inserts, which can corrode or come loose at deep depths. The international testing lab of Germanischen Lloyd has tested the U1, and determined that the watch can be certified as water resistant to 1,000 meters. This same firm tests submarines for their ability to withstand the effects of underwater use.

The watch has an automatic mechanical movement, operating at 28,800 beats per hour, shockproof according to DIN 8308 specification and anti-magnetic according to DIN 8309 specification.

Matte black dial with date at 3, Super Luminova on hands and markers, and striking red seconds hand complete the design. Other features include sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and rubber strap with double push deployant buckle and fliplock safety clasp.

It operates in temperatures between -45° Celsius to +80° Celsius due to the special lubricants in the movement applied in the Sinn laboratory.

My other one is the

Sinn 356 Flieger UTC automatic:

Both have SUG technology

There is a AMG version of the 356 I would love to add that watch to my collection too. The weight on these watches are very similar to Panerai which I like.

Here is a great post on a watch forum describing the members experience touring the Sinn Factory. When I say small boutique manufacturer this post gives you the visual.

Yeah I love the band too, I custom ordered it which took almost a month. Mario Paci's bands are top quality and you pay for it.

Camera Olympus E500 SLR These are sized down from 8MP. The larger format look really cool. Especially that first image.

Here are some cool pics I took of my 996TT Same camera differen lens.

I like the stitching, but not the ragged look. I'm not big on the torn jeans at the knees and that is what it reminded me of. Either case, gorgeous watch and great heritage.

I wear $200 jeans with holes in them so I guess It fits my style the Leather is a vintage style. In person it feels like a thick suede leather. The thicker band looks much better then the calf skin skinny band that came with the watch. Also the satin SS buckle matches the watches finish which is perfect. The watch itself is just clean and crisp looking.

That second watch (with the mustard photo background, yellow type, and black band with black stitching) is very cool, but I'm wondering how it tells time.

WOW that is quite a collection you have!!! I am jealouse. If you search google and Yahoo you can find a few dealers in Asia that show them as available. I found mine in Germany the owner spoke great english, Thank god!they are not easy to find that is for sure. With a limited production of 250 and the fact that they have been around for 4 years.

Not so sure about that comment.....I have a Rolex President in 14K gold (new over $20K) in perfect brand new condition and every place I went to gauge value wanted to give me $8k for it.....I wouldn't call that great resale value for a watch that's barely ever been worn

Very Nice watch, the Mario Paci as well....I've been pondering which Sinn to purchase for about a year now. Once I get relocated, I'll be buying. At any rate www.watchbuys.com
