What does this button do? (E55)

I cant find this button listed in my manual.

What does it do?

Also, anyway to match temps for all front 2 zones with just one button?

i believe thats for the filter, not exactly sure the purpose of it, i think it "cleans" the air before it enters the cabin

Yeah- It just filters the air thats coming into the system from outside. Good to use when its smoggy or in a dust storm.

I thought all E55's naturally have air / pollen filters.

Yep it is the filter, and the W211 has 2 (dust & pollen and charcoal) one is always on don't know which one, the other is switched. When mine is on I hear more fan/air noise.

I believe this is the charcoal filter, it filters out odours e.t.c. from the cabin.

additional charcoal filter for smoke etc etc outside.
Using it reduces the 'efficiency' of the AC by reducing airflow capacity, so leave it off unless you need it.

It routes cabin air through a charcoal filter. Punch it on every time you get stuck behind a diesel. I thought it would be as useful as the button for the backseat headrests but I was wrong. I use it a few times a week and it clears any "stink" out of the cabin in 3-5 seconds.

Still waiting for those Benz engineers to create a button to silence the yammering from the passenger seat.

I love that VW commercial where the girl's hair is blowing all over the place and she asks if they could close the windows. They guys turns to her and says, "I can't hear the engine over all of your yapping."

Steve looked at my car last year and he pointed out where the charcoal filter is located and it was not in my car.
