S65 AMG vs. M5
Hello everybody, I'm new to the forums although I've been reading for a while. I wanted to share this story. I'm not sure where to post this, but since most M5 stories are here I figured this would be good.
I recently bought a 2006 S65 AMG and my wife was driving the car with me in the front and our son in the carseat in the rear asleep, following my other brothers (Toyota Tundra and Honda Coupe) as we were taking our father out to dinner this weekend for Fathers Day. We were on I485 outside Charlotte when this new M5 just blows by us. I tell her "don't you let that M5 treat this beast like that...go get him". So she does and we quickly catch him. I look at him to see if he wants to try a run for fun. Instead, he starts to slow down, so my wife gets in front of him. Funny thing is she starts to slow down to see if he would move to the right to try to pass. Nope. He slowed even more, keeping a good distance between us. He went so slow that my other brothers caught up and passed him to get behind us. I was so disappointed...I figured it would be a good run since we were already at 70ish mph and traffic was clear enough ahead. Anyways, he wouldn't go. Later when traffic got busy again, he did another fly by, just to take an exit a few minutes later. I looked at him as he was leaving and we made eye-contact. He looked like a kid who just had his candy taken from him.
I didn't mean any disrespect. I love the M5 and at one time it was my dream car. But, after owning a C32 AMG and driving the S65, I changed my mind and am an AMG guy.

The 2006 S65 makes a really great CPO buy and truly is the king of the highway.
Titan is a nice truck too.

Thanks for the welcome. Any ideas how this would have turned out if we had a run? (My wife would have just floored it, so if its a drivers race, we'd lose.)

But seriously, he's right, we should not have thought about racing with a child in the car. Thinking about doing that was asinine, but that doesn't make us "jackasses". Maybe it's just semantics. He could've said something like, "hey, you probably shouldn't be racing with a child in the car". I would've said "you're right, and thank you. ". I'm sure everybody here has done things that are just as bad that they later regret...or is everybody here perfect.

Oh by the way, my wife was just responding to him "punching it to solicit a race" from us. She did not initiate it. When she responded, he quit (maybe for a good reason, like saving us from ourselves when he saw our kid...which would make him a cool guy). That's all I'll say about this issue. Thanks for the warm welcome.

I never said he didn't have a point...my wife is a jackass (J/K).

Racing with your kid in the backseat is a dick thing to do, I agree. However in defense, I've raced with my little brother (he was 5) in the back seat a few times. I don't mean to. It just happens, someone challenges you and you just gotta show 'em whos boss. Of course, I hated myself after that and vowed to never do it again. You learn from your mistakes, lets just be thankful that nobody was hurt in any way

Thanks, my brother also lives by the 485 loop...on the east side. It runs through some pretty nice areas. I don't come to Charlotte much, but if I do I'll look for your M3 and Hotrod-Realtor's S55. Lake Norman is also another beautiful area. My brother is thinking about moving out there. Hope to see both of you around sometime.

Yeah, but the majority of people don't race to 160mph, let alone past it, unless of course they have a death wish or happen to have an airport runway lying around. There is absolutely nowhere in Miami where i can get to 160mph, maybe the turnpike on a quiet day, maybe.
