Did my front pads and rotors today. The minimum thickness on the rotors are stamped on them. Mine say 34mm

I unplugged the SBC pump. Once I got the pins out I pushed the pistons back in by hand with the old pads still in place. Didn't need to depressurize or relieve the pressure in any way.

This is the worst advice I have ever heard. You should never install new pads on used rotors unless they have been turned/ cut first.

Knock out the 2 slider pins with a hole punch, pull out the old pads, slide in the new and put the sliders and guide back in. Done. Also, another little tip. See how he has his calipers sitting on the floor. Before you get started at this job get some big zip ties. You can zip tie the caliper to anything so that you don't take a chance of scratching your nice calipers and so that you don't brake a brake line.

I wouldn't call it "the worst advice ever". While it's recommended I don't it always must be done. Use your best judgment and if they look ok by all means

Stupid phone...

Slap the pads on. You have to realize your stopping won't be ideal and you will have to bed your pads in longer to match the surface of the rotor.

But let's be honest...when I go to track days and I put on my track pads that morning, at the track, am I getting my rotors turned down right then? And I'm about to go out and run my car at 10/10...

No your not because you are racing. When racing it doesn't matter if you have uneven pad wear, since you will not wear a set out in one session. Cutting the rotors is for longevity and even pad wear for daily driving.

Question - sorry if it has been answered somewhere else - I did look...

So I got everything swapped - everything cleaned shiny and new (both Stock Rotors and Akebono Pads) - but looking at the rotors and the sweep of them on each side is oposite? Is that correct, the dealer says there is only one part number for both sides? I thought that seemed a little odd - the old ones are also the same way...

I did read on other forums that stated people did have left and right side rotors to match the direction of drilled holes...Anyone wanna confirm for me - would be greatly appreciated.

(PS - I would agree on all the other conversations surrounding pad and rotor choices - stockers and Akebonos are a great combo - and almost one of the cheapest options if you source right)

Thanks in advance.

you must own stock in a pad cutting company lol!!! I have been changing brakes for 20yrs and rarely ever have to cut my rotors.... unless your rotors are severely chewed up then you do not need to cut them... and if they are that chewed up you should prob just get new rotors rather than removing material

i changed my pads on the e55 over 30K miles ago and no probs..

btw you are not supposed to cut the oem MB amg rotors if you read the oem data sheet.

quick question; why did you have to put the car in neutral before unplugging the SBC?
