Cracked Supercharger
I had purchased a 2004 E55 last Friday, and 12 hours fresh off the lot I had to get it towed. So at around midnight a tow truck came and took my E-Class to Fletcher Jones.
FINALLY:
I get word of whats wrong. A number of things:
- a coolant hose is leaking (replacement imperative, on back order)
- oil leak
- and my personal favorite, a cracked supercharger, which needs replacement (also on back order)
I got a C230 as a rental
Been without the E55 for almost a week, and word is the E55 wont be ready for another week, Tech guess is Friday next week.
Is the car going to be just as good with a new supercharger? I always was one to think from the factory is done best...

I had my supercharger replaced and it pulled a whole lot better than before the replacement.
Two weeks is a kinda long though for the repair. They had to order mine from Germany also but they got it out for me in about a week. It would have been faster, but they had to wait on my extended warranty company to OK the work.
You'll be fine with the new supercharger.
Good Luck

Mine was replaced as well and the car is much happier now. You will be getting the updated S/C that eliminates the "chirp" found in many of these cars and the clutch engagement is much smoother.
Other than the 2 weeks flogging the $#@! out of the C230 just to get it rolling, this is a good thing for you.

It will DEFINITELY be better than new IF they order the right parts for you. Make sure they get you the 2006 supercharger. That will include the improved "Chirpless" clutch. I had this same 'upgrade' done when my old S/C was on the blink. Went from a guaranteed 'chirp' every launch to absolutely nothing. Even if you didn't have the dreaded chirp, it would eventually have shown up in all likelihood. So look on the bright side. Yeah, toss on an upgraded TB while you are at it and make the best of the situation.

Tre weird. That musta been a LOT of heat to crack the blower. Either a construction defect or a LOT of heat. Have them check your internals while they're in there man.
