Logistics Of 10/8 Race Day?

blackbenzz:

as our big day approaches, would it be good to provide us all with some logistical details of the 10/8 day? I.e. what time should we be rolling in? How will pairing, ordering, taking turns, etc. work? Should we plan on being there all day? etc.

Sorry, I thought I already gave the details. We have the track from 9am-5pm. Usually the track isnt done being prepped until about 9:30-10ish. There is no set time for people to come to the track nor leave the track (as long as its between 9-5). You can come and go as you please. There is no pairing/ordering/taking turns. You just get in line for one of the lanes and wait until its your turn. Some people like to run more than others. You can go down the track and get right back in line if you want. At previous rentals (about half as many people running but only 1 lane) there was never a line of more than 2 or 3 cars and usually you could just roll up to the staging lanes without any wait. There will just be two lanes open and if you want to run against someone in particular you have to arrange it so that you are both side by side. I dont anticipate any big lines to run since people usually want to cool their cars down between runs. You can even run solo if you'd like.

I was thinking about this the other day and would you guys want to keep one lane strictly for the cars with drag radials/slicks? It doesnt matter if the d/r and slick cars run in any lane but the street tire cars would tear up the traction compound. Just a thought

Of course i'm joking

I cant get traction right now in 1st or 2nd gear on the street, i'm screwed.

Time to keep a close look at the forecast.

Weather.com is saying there is a 40% chance of scattered thunderstorms on 10/8.

They are usually never right though. Lets keep a close watch on this throughout the week.

They are usually wrong when looking at weather this far out. I REALLY hope it doesnt rain. That would suck!!!

I agree. It looks like it is suppose to rain on Tuesday. Maybe it will rain late Monday night, like around 10pm.

Will run E55 in "stock" mode AND driving ethics

Guys: 2 questions, including a "driving ethics check" question:

1. I am planning on running my car at MIR in "stock" mode; i.e. I don't want to burn tires, go in dyno mode, etc. I want to see what the car can do in real-life operating conditions. I will run in "M" mode and go from there.

question: Am I being a wuss?

2. The funnest part about this car: stopping at a stop light in the "right turn only" lane, with full intention of going straight when the light turns green; and of course, having no difficulty whatsoever pulling ahead of the other cars, and getting back into the straight lane upon the green light, with there being nothing but safe distance between my tail and the other cars front bumpers; I don't even think they notice it half the time; it happens so fast, they just sit there with that "deer in headlights" look, thinking to themselves, "did something just happen in front of me....?"

Question: Am I being a dick, or is this simply one of the benefits of us spending so much to have such an incredible machine.

answer1: not a wuss

answer2: dick

dyno mode won't help et's or trap speeds, it only allows you to perform a longer burnout if you have d/r's. a light burnout helps with traction but if you don't want to do one you'll have to be very smooth with your right foot. btw, running in s mode has given better results than m mode.

obvioiusly, this is only my opinion but if you're getting in front of people from a merge lane that's one thing however by doing it from a right turn only lane i would consider that being a dick...not only to the people you cut in front of but to the people stuck waiting to make a right hand turn behind you. eventually you're going to run into some silly modded civic that's going to stuff you.

His car weighs about 2000 pounds and has about 500whp!

Ok guys, I just met a guy that owns Tempest Racing (a tuner shop) thats about 1/4 mile from MIR. He said we can go hang out at his shop the night before and dyno and do whatever. He also said we can leave the cars at his shop and they would be safe. Would you guys be interested in doing that?

Of course it is all for fun. During these track rentals you can run whomever you want. "Grudge runs" are the most typical, otherwise its the guy next to you in line. I'm sure if you want to run solo that will be no problem as there seems to be lots of down time as the cars cool off etc. It will be so cool to run against the Ford GT, Z06, etc just to see how the 600 cars do.
