Lightbulb So im upgrading my pulley to Kleemann... DO I NEED A NEW BELT???

I will be installing a kleemann pulley to replace my oem pulley.

I hear that some people replace their belt so that they work more efficent.

What belt do i need for the kleemann pulley? Part number and website would be so great!

They use a stock belt, as Ted said above. Use the one you have, or splurge and get a new one at the dealer. But there is no special belt they use...

.............seems you really want to buy some sort of special belt. There is no special belt. Any belt with the same length and number of ribs will work. The dayco belt for ASP is only because ASP pulley is much larger than the Kleemann pulley and needs a longer belt. The dayco belts are probably a little stronger than oem, but nno such thing as a belt that makes your pulley "more efficient." Someone is going to sell you some snake oil.

On supercharged engines larger crank pulleys provide more boost to the supercharger..... I am not sure your CLK500 would benefit much from a crank pulley swap....

05 ML-500 , 03 CLK5.5 AMG has left the Garage
N/A Motor Underdrive pullies

rrichard: Did did several sets back on the CLK5.5 board. These are pullies that VRP Performance Stocks (Vrus) here's a small clip of the install , and yes they help

I installed a set of these pulleys on my 2003 CLK 5.5 AMG . Just for Grins , I wanted to Check the Quality of the workmanship , So I, 1 st checked them on my lathe Before installing them . They were very STRAIGHT and precision made. Too within .0005. And thats excellant. The installation was pretty straight forward, Abit of a pain, because I left everything Mounted on the engine. No removal of assys.

The Alternator pulley nut was on Tight!!. It took a strap Wrench and a 24" breaker bar , too get it loose.Once that was done . The pulley will slide right off easily. The Water pump pulley is a no Brainer . The Power steering pulley is touchy!!

To do that one right, you will need to a K-D Tools,Pulley remover / installer Set. Part Number K-D 2897 . I brought mine from the NAPA Store . Expect to pay about $83.00 / E-bay $45.00. Or borrow one . This one works great and will not damage the OEM or VRP performance Stuff. Sometimes the Auto parts stores have a tool rental / loaner program, You just leave them a deposit .

Remember !! with a poly vee belt , The pulley alignment must be PERFECT!!

I then dynoed the car . I pick up about 10 HP at 3000 RPM thru 4200 rpm Band, only 2 HP @ 6000 rpm. Was it Worth it. YES ,I will take the increase . A HP here & a HP there adds up at the end of the day. It's tough to measure the rate of acceration on the dyno. I just had to remember , these cars do not always respond big , to these mods , like the claims ?? made for some American made engines . You can race dynos all day long . But History is made on the track!!
