2004 E55 AMG and 2003 C320 4Matic Miss my 993 Turbo above!!
Base Dyno Results Today

END OF THREAD.....I WAS NOT IN DYNO MODE IN MY CAR. LESSON LEARNED!!

NEW DYNO NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had my first of what I hope to be many DYNO's today on my Stock 2004 E55 AMG.

Well it took A TOTAL OF SIX pulls before he got my 4th gear chart. 2 Pulls to get my 3rd gear pull. We tried it in fourth but since it downshifted on its own to third (Yes, I had it in Manual mode in 4th, it ended downshifting to third so it ended up being our 3rd gear pull.

Ryan finally got the hang of it and figured out how to maintain 4th gear without having it downshift on its own

So here are the results on a DYNOJET:

3rd GEAR PULL……………371.9 MAX HP 364.28 MAX Torque UNCORRECTED 1.0
4th GEAR PULL……………393.11 MAX HP 443.75 MAX Torque UNCORRECTED 1.0

Observations…… No SC belt slippage
3rd Gear RPM LIMITER kicked in at 6,400
4th Gear 155 MPH Limiter Kicked in at 5000 RPM
Humidity 36%
Run Conditions 84 Degrees
A/F started at 14 or so and ended up at 11.5 at peak HP.

Looks like 16% loss from the crank on HP and 14% on Torque from the crank. Is it normal to have the Torque on the 3rd gear pull be less than the HP….

Any comments from these numbers………

Thanks for any input.......

So here are the results:

3rd GEAR PULL……………371.9 MAX HP 364.28 MAX Torque UNCORRECTED 1.0
4th GEAR PULL……………393.11 MAX HP 443.75 MAX Torque UNCORRECTED 1.0

Why only have 393.11 rwhp . I saw some one on board dyno 410rwhp on base line . So can someone explain not all e55 have 469 hp at the crank right ?

impossible to accurately compare anyones results to anyone elses unless they were done same time, same place, same dyno. these numbers are also uncorrected and would likely be higher otherwise.

btw, e55's are closer to 493 at the crank.

I just realized that the AF reading at Peak HP of 393.11 was at 11.5. Does that seem low compared to others who have HP peaking. I wonder if the ECU shut off at 5,000 RPM in my 4th gear pull impacted my MAX HP of 393.11.

Anyways, the purpose was to get a base line to measure against for future mods. I still think my HP is low for a stock......

Any comments?? Maybe I will get another one done for peace of mind to see if the numbers change significantly. I thought I should have been at least 400HP at the RW.

I will get the chart up shortly......

running (near) lean used to be unheard of in these cars...that was until the ecu reflash associated with the last recall. typically running 13:1 afr is great and makes a bit more hp but it's not where i'd feel comfotable with these cars.

Doe this account for the lower HP........The torque numbers look fine to others who reported 419HP or so.......

How many pulls did you do? You stated that after a few pulls, he got a good chart. With my car, after a few (4-5) pulls, I'm down 10WHP.

There are many things that can affect numbers. I've seen an E55 with dirty stock air filters make less HP than yours.

I wouldn't worry about it too much...it's only a number.

Actually we did SIX pulls in total to get the final 4th gear pull. Maybe Heat soak killed my numbers. I am going back again. This time... Will use paddles to get to 4th gear and get her accelerating at 2500 or 2700 rpm. I believe my graph shows him accelerating at 3,600 rpms.......

Question Dyno Mode?

Were you in "Dyno Mode"? That is real important in running on the dyno.

Regards!!!

Sounds a bit light.....Do you know #'s from any other stock vehicles done on that same dyno for comparision? I would expect 410rwhp as well. Still though.......I think your doing alright lol

You should get your money back. I don't know what they did. First of all - they are supposed to give you corrected numbers. The 83 degree temperatures hurt your test for sure.

Your graphs looks nothing like any graph I've seen. Why do the readings for hp stop at 5,000 rpm if it was run in 3rd gear? Why does the torque line continue beyond 6,000 rpm on the same graph. Doesn't make sense.

Second - if they know anything about dyno'ing an AMG, they should know that it has to be put into dyno mode. (I guess owners should know this, too) If it wasn't in dyno mode, the runs are useless.

Check the graph in my sig for my bone stock E55. I pulled 419 rwhp and 455 rwtq corrected on a dynojet. (438 rwhp and 470 rwtq, uncorrected) That's about average for our cars.

Don't be discouraged. The problem is probably the dyno shop's and not that of your car.

Roland,

Like everyone else said, you needed to be in Dyno mode to do the pulls.

Did you go through this procedure before you started?

The numbers are a bit low, but, I suspect once they are converted to corrected numbers it should be inline with a stock car..

For comparison my car pulled 411rwhp, 476rwtq bone stock.

ENZOM,

The 4th gear pull was limited at 5000 rpm by the 155 MPH limiter. That's why you only see 5000 rpm on the 4th gear pull.

Just questioned Eric and Ryan at the DYNO shop about the pulls......

There machine is always in DNYO MODE...... Second, they started the 4th gear pull in fourth. After reading and talking to folks, I think that was a problem/mistake becuase it would always downshift to third on the stomp. We were in Manual mode but started in 4th. We should have started in 1st and worked our way to 4th gear to get to 2500 rpm and then STOMP...........Everytime we stomped starting in 4th gear she would downshift. I guess the question is how do you stomp on the dyno without having it downshift. Use Manual from 1st to 4th and stomp??

I am going back on Monday for a new pull.....

Thanks....................

Not the machine, but YOUR car has to be in dyno mode.

You need to put YOUR car in dyno mode, trans in Manual and start off ****fing with the steering wheel buttons in 1st up through until you get to 4th.Then stomp on it at 2500 rpm,no later.

Nope, that's not it.

Something else is going on. Dyno mode uses an emission map that is a bit more conservative than regular map. You will not see much difference. Stock 55s are in low 400s (410-425), so you are about 25HP off.

Make sure your IC pump is working and replace your air filters, they are probably dirty.

Good Luck!

Post your corrected numbers-(Sae,Std), if you are at higher elevation your uncorrected numbers will be lower.

yep...i'd be willing to wager that properly applied correction factors will bring his hp right in line. and dynojet's suck at giving accurate afr's so don't worry about that either.

I understand you E guys wanting to be in "Dyno mode" for a full pull, but don't you really care what the cars putting down to the wheels ie... When your driving around town (street racing or track) hardly anyone uses dyno mode when normal driving? due to NO control of ABS-ESP-ect..

Dyno mode would seem to give you false #'s for 99% of the time your behind the wheel, unless it's just used for ultimate tuning base line, pre-post modding or your a track hound that can actually control the BEAST in "Dyno mode"

Dyno mode tells the electronic nannies that there is nothing wrong with the fact that your front wheels aren't turning while your back wheels are. It does not give you extra power.

Hmmm understood! But why then do others report sizeable differences in HP when in "Dyno Mode"?

Just a guess here. The ESP is trying to control the power.I have been told you can still dyno the car without dyno mode if you either close the hood,or cover the hood sensors so it thinks the hood is closed.I havent tried it yet but it does come from a reliable person.
