E63 impressive vs. 2007 Z06
I cannot speak publically about the show I am working on but we have some real nice promo cars.
We have a 2007 E63 that everyone seems to Love to drive.
Today two professional drivers , stunt drivers performed for the camera. The E63 is one of our characters cars and he gets in a chase with a Z06. During the filming there is a chase and the drivers were very suprised at which car felt faster...................
I asked both the drivers and they both said "the Mercedes". I was suprised and asked if the car was stock , he said yeah it has 507 hp blah blah...I said yeah I know I have one. The guys went on to tell me they did many races they called it "block to block" Both said the "Mercedes was faster". I asked the guy to post his opinion on the forum.

A fast car with auto/tq converter/quiet exhaust will seem faster to some people, when in reality the Z06 will absolutely destroy a *63 (and *55 for that matter) in any performance measure. Assume that the 7L pushrod V8 makes the same HP/TQ as the 6.2L OHC AMG engine - the Corvette weighs almost 1000lbs less than the E.
I've always said that an average driver in our cars would have a good chance against a poor to average driver in a car like the Z06. It takes a lot more skill to row the boat on a high HP, lightweight sports car.

What good are all those numbers though if 99% of the people owning the Z06 are average drivers?

I didn't say anything about average drivers; I said the Z would need a poor driver to keep the E in a race. Particularly from a roll, but even from a dig it would take a missed shift or a poor effort. The Z is a significantly faster car because it is just as powerful, tremendously lighter, and geared better. Who knows why these guys "thought" the Benz was faster. Maybe they "think" Rosie is better looking than Elizabeth.

I know I could get in trouble but I did not post video or disclose any plots etc..
So far I do not think the Producers of my show follow MBworld LOL..That could change.
The Stunt men know how to drive , the guys doing this are likely some of the best drivers in the world, this is why I thought the comments interesting. These guys risk much and have no bias as neither own Mercedes. I was really happy they are so hyped on the car. I simply asked which car "felt faster" and 100% of the stunt team said the Mercedes was the "fastest car". Whats funny is the guy said the E63 would destroy my CLS, I laughed and said "bring it". The car may fell faster because it is pecieved as a sedan whereas the Z is a pure sports car. This show will air Wednesday nights in Sept 8pm? We will be up against CSI NY....Donald Sutherland and Peter Krause and a truly talented cast and crew.

I was not attempting to suggest the E is faster just the perception of the drivers and the runs I saw while filming. E pulled the Vette everytime from a dig running to the end of the street. ( For those in So cal) we will be filming in Beverly Hills @ Rodeo Drive next week, come on down.
I know the Z06 is faster according to all the mags but the 63 does really well for being so much heavier. I think people are truly amazed it can keep up.

hard to "destroy" any car when traction is as hard to attain in a vette as weight loss is in the 63

Hard to understand given the 3,130 curb weight of the Z06 that goes 0-60 in 3.7 ticks. I want to understand.... Everything I have read even right here is that the Z has the edge. Now if there was a mod....

There is absolutely NO comparison between the two cars. Not even close. I have had both cars out to a road race circuit on the same day, and the Z06 is light years ahead of the E63 (and everything else I have ever encountered at the track - by the way). The "feel" of the cars is dramatically different, and the Z06 is many seconds faster per lap on a road circuit, and of course on the drag strip.
Not sure what these drivers were smoking, but the E63 is so civilized that it absolutely "feels" slower than the Vette, in part because it is so well isolated.
In absolute terms though, while no sports car (sports cars don't weigh 4000 lbs), the E63 did just fine on the track (for a 4000 lb sedan).
The Z06 is superb on the track - in fact, I've stopped driving it on the street - too frustrating - and use it for week-end track events only.

The drivers have 30 plus years of stunt driving , have done most of the stunts in the cars you have seen in many TV show and movies and simply stated on the street going block to block the 63 felt "faster" . This was not a timed track event nor a comparo between the Vette and the Mercedes. Simply highly respected members of an elite group giving props to the E63. Sorry but my experience racing the Z06 is vastly different. On the street the 63 is much easier to control and drive at WOT.
I am not debating the fact the Z06 is faster on paper or on a track or hot lapping or even a drag strip, just relaying what some well respected drivers stated after spending 2 weeks in the Z06 and the E63.
Why are you guys so quick to critisize the 63 and or question anyone who is impressed by it?
