How much faster is the E55 vs. CLS55? Why?
Hey y'all,
How much faster are our E's than the CLS55? Seems like many posters report low 13's with the CLS55. I've seen several stock E55's run mid 12's, a HUGE difference.
Is this really the norm? I though the CLS55 was essentially the same car, with a different shape and interior. Granted it might weigh a bit more (though I'm not sure why this is the case), but is it THAT much heavier? Other reasons for the difference?
As an aside, I had a 'launch' question. Could it be that our cars launch faster if the car is in 'raised' mode? If the car is sitting up higher, and suspension is set for comfort mode, might the rear end push down more (due to the increased travel) and thus produce more down force on the tires, resulting in better hookup? I'm sure people have tried this.
Must not work, as the track dogs among us don't list this as part of their method.
Thanx,
Skeeter

I think the 19's hurt performance, but they are wider 9.5 x 9 on the E.
The rims are very hot.. so its a nice trade off.
The CLS is a bit heavier..
The cars are very close in performance.. but the edge on the E. But no enough to predict a clear winner.

I had both, but never made it to the track in the CLS.It's a few lbs heavier then the E,but w/all that torque I dont it would effect performance that much.river error would play a bigger role then the weight difference.
Yes,you are correct in launching the car in Aimatic comfort mode,it will allow the rear to squat and hook up better.

the CLS is 250 pounds heavier...... I've tried raising my car up, comfort mode suspension when lauching, can't say it made enough of a difference or not.... best stock CLS time I've seen is 12.4.... best E55's are in the 11's...

Huge difference between 18's and 19's. That's the biggest decider right there.
Also, the E has a better drag coefficient and is lighter, which helps.

is an e55 stock if its running on 20s?
the e is faster because its the better car
(sorry for the stupid post, i wanted a cls, ended up with the e. i love my e, and conclude therefore that i have the right not to make sense occasionally)

the cls is only a couple hundred pounds heavier, but with almost 500hp and 516tq, does that really make that much of a difference, or is it most likely due to the 19" wheels?
