Truck Advice

OK - unrelated to the E55, but I trust your judgment. Lease is up on my Grand Cherokee, and I need to replace it with another CHEAP (read under $300/mo.) beater 4x4 that will get me through winters, haul crap and get my dog to the groomer. Trying to decide between another Cherokee or a Nissan Xterra.

Any thoughts?

(p.s. - first person that suggests a Cayenne, X5 or something else that doesn't fit the bill as a CHEAP daily beater will be vexed with a monumental case of jock itch.)

any dodge dakota 01 and up until ugly face change. had 4 and zero problems with the 4.7l v8. with the 4 door. just like an suv but can haul gas and no worries.

1989 Toyota Tercel Coupé
get an h3, honda pilot or that new toyota. those are all pretty cheap and you can throw stuff in the back and not worry about scrates and what not

If you get the Xterra, make sure to stock up on motion sickness bags. It's a real jittery ride.

Why don't you BUY a beater, instead of renting one every few years? Either a short finance term or something you can buy outright. If you're just looking for a beater, I don't think it makes sense to finance/lease something new.

I appreciate the idea. But I don't want to get stuck with something out of warranty. If it will cost me $300 per month to lease a brand new car under warranty, or $300 per month to finance a three year old car without a warranty, I'd rather have the peace of mind.

Are you referring to the first or second generation Xterra? That's bad news if you are. I don't want something jittery. Thanks.

The last one I drove was new, 2 years ago.

The best answer is that you should try it yourself because "ymmv".
