Supercharger for AMG 63s (M156)
Over the last several weeks I have had a number of 63 owners expressing interest in forced induction for their cars.
After evaluating a number of possibilities in terms of what to use - turbo or supercharger - I have settled on a twin-screw from Kenne Bell.
Let me try to answer some fore coming questions to best of my knowledge at this time.
1. What kind of power increase can be expected?
Since M156 runs 11.3:1 CR, 3-4 psi will be boost limit for Stage I, as R&D progresses and transmission strength can be verified, more boost would be possible. I am expecting 70HP/70TQ at the wheels at this boost level, more with other mods.
2. Price?
At this time it is hard to predict. I will do everything I can to make it affordable.
3. Will it work with other mods?
Not with software, but with headers, exhaust, intake and so forth should not be a problem.
4. What do I do next?
If you are interested and serious about this kit, I need to hear from you, so I can judge the demand more precisely. Just e-mail me your name, model and contact information.
Thank you for listening.

I have heard that supercharging a high compression engine = bad idea. Is that why you have suggested a low boost pressure? Also, will the 7 spd tranny be able to handle it??
Just looking for information here. Thanks!

Out Of Control!!
Vadim- Nice choice, kenne bells make great blowers. I love the sound at high PSI but i'm sure you wont be boosting too much.

Seems like alot of work and money, considering a properly set-up dry kit will easily yield 100+ rwhp for a fraction of the price. That way you only use the power when needed. Just my 2 cents.

Thank you guys for support!
As far as high-compression. I spent this morning talking to Jim Bell (Kenne Bell), whom I have known for over 15 years now, and picked his brain. Based upon his experience and recommendations this why I am considering this project.

Well dude, this comes at a bad time as my 63 might be on it's way out in a week or so, but I really hope someone steps up to take you up on this. The best way to gain some support though is to install it on the 63 you already have and hold a meet at GMG to talk about the results and then let me test drive the car
Good luck!
Good luck!

i had a kb blower on a dodge truck i had. very reasonable cost. since we know what they cost themselves at msrp a sharp mb tax wont yield positive results amthough we know youre not in biz to give stuff away.

Good luck Vadim.
However, I would say 70 hp + 70 tq is a bit on the low side. I don't know, maybe I'm just used to see an addition of at least 100hp with Kleemann supercharger on a 55 engine.

Intercooler will definitely be a must.

Still not sure, nothing too fast, gotta get somewhat practical and boring, siding with style more than performance these days, you never know though, if this SC gives 100+ I might switch back just to have some crazy fun at the track. go through tires like butter.

Kenne Bell has done very well supplying properly engineered kits for domestic market supercharger enthusiasts. The parallels clearly exist for Mercedes-Benz tuners. Vadim will most likely fit dozens of his upgrades with favorable results.
Current K-B kits are engaged continuously, with a vacuum actuated bypass to reduce the pumping losses incurred during light load operation.

count me in Have you done any test yet? 70hp to the wheels sounds great. I have headers and ecu by Renntech, Trans up grade and rear end comming soon . Any price yet and who will install? Will it fit with stock hood. By the way any Ideas or thoughts on rear end choice?

Have you done a dinoy after the rentech upgrades by any chance?

Vadim sounds like a nice project but ... where u goona put it ??? that engine bay looks pretty tight - especially on top.
I would put in some shorter con rods to drop CR to sub 10 and you can go to town on boost ... mbe this is not necesary given the VVT top end ... dunno.
Personally I think the 63 has reasonably good grunt low down and nicely free revving ... Perhaps the SC will reduce its free revving nature? I think the motor is more suited to TT setup than a blower and space / plumbing wise might be easier to get together.
Also it seems this is the way MB will go too ... so OEM parts should be available off the shelf down the road
Just my 2c....

[QUOTE=Vadim@GMGRacing;2358006]Over the last several weeks I have had a number of 63 owners expressing interest in forced induction for their cars.
Hello Vadium:
I can you you from over 10 years of experience with KeneBell that Whipplechargers area WONDERFUL product. I road raced my 91 stang with a whipple for well over 10 years and NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT.
Now I did break alot of trannies
But that was do to the amazing low end boost that they provided.
Keep in mind that while they are extremely efficient blower, Meaning lowest rise in temp when compressing the air, PV=NRT, you REALLY want to look into a intercooler since the 63 motor has the 11.3 compression ratio.
Also, almost ALL engine tuners well agree, you need atleast 5 pounds of boost to see real world gains form it.
Keep the GREAT ideas and info coming please
HEck, you may even get me convinced to look at a 63 series if your idea pans out as NOTHING gives you low end torque like a WHIPPLE
Good luck and SEE YEAH
