My buddy got an '07 M5, of course, we went at it
Hey everyone!
So my buddy just got an '07 M5, stock with all the trimmings.
He just hit 1,300 miles and we decided to go at it - conveniently disturbing the rich folk in Beverly Hills at 1am.
We did 3 tries from 0-75 (about). I really don't know what happened but I really feel that I had him every once in a while. Here's what I mean: after 3 honks, we both gunned it. I was in automatic, mode "S", traction on, he was in SMG, Power on, traction on. I immediately pulled on him, then he pulled on me, then I pulled on him, and on and on. It was REALLY close, but I truly feel that I had the race won.
We had to let go after 75...
He claims he won (of course, typical M5 owner
)
I feel that I had him the whole time by NO MORE than 1/4 car length.
Your thoughts?
P.s. I need to get someone to stand outside and take a video of this.

We need more info to determine the winner.
Was the road straight or "twisty"; if twisty, were your "active" seats activated? How's your IC pump? Was he in P500,413,127 mode? Did it take him so long to get his car in the P500,413,127 setting that you suffered heat soak? Did you honk, or did he? How loud is your horn, and how loud is his? Are you really Gustav, or was Gustav there to witness the outcome? Have you met Gustav? Can you get me an autograph? Is he really that short in person?
All of these questions and many, many more must be answered before you or any other lowly 55 owner can claim a definitive win over any M5.

SL55 AMG, M5 E60, 2002 S55 AMG, Range Rover Sport Supercharged,
Good run? Questions are, to make sure the M5 was running its best and its A game, was your buddy's M5 in P500S, S6 shifting mode, with DSC engaged etc?
Did he know how to properly launch the car and shift in the right gears and RPMs? Were you doing it properly also even though you were in automatic?
It was from standstill in this race? Next time, try doing a roll and using manual paddle shifters. I heard that it can be slightly faster using the paddle shifters than automatic.
Many factors exist to determine which car is faster. But mainly is whether the M5 was in the right shifting program and right mode and gears. It is indeed harder to properly launch the M5 from standstill and even a roll than the easier E55.

Nice kill! I just had my IC pump replaced (for the second time) and can't wait to find an empty stretch of road to stretch her legs a bit.
Did your friend have the first service done? I know BMW M puts mineral oil in their engines during break-in. I think I remember reading something on this board from someone who purchased an M6 that the car felt like a dog during break-in, and didn't feel it reached its full potential until a few thousand miles later.
