Compared to most of you guys I've got no experience w/ these cars, but the AWD systems in Audi's seems to chew power up at high speeds where the traction advantage of AWD is moo. What I've seen for V10 S6 (450HP) is no faster than a E39 M5.

I am probably in a minority of 1 who thinks that is too much power. Well at least for the estate. A 600bhp estate seems a bit of a waste of time. With a chip upgrade I can see this thing putting out 700bhp ..crazy and slightly pointless unless you are heavily into Q / sleeper cars.
I think I'd rather have the M5 estate or new C63 estate .. both slower but probably a lot more fun and interesting to drive.

Andy

i think this audi will be a succes.i'm not a audi fan,but i like the rs models since the rs 2.the interieur looks also nice
but one thing i can laugh about: look at this weird weak rear axle brake caliper.mercedes can do it better on the amg models with 4pot calipers on the rear axle.
and there would be definatly a tt 6.2 in the future.

Now that's an Audi! Well where is all this HP from the factory going? You say up to 1000HP....In the not so far future ELECTRIC is the new energy for fuel and our gasoline AMG's will be on batteries. So enjoy it why you can the new breed of Hot Roding is just around the bend!! Look at Japan forcing other car brands to step up to electric and the new Hybrid Mercedes S coming out in 2009. Time to invest in this new future in the automotive industry.

Hey, it's great to see the HP wars continuing but it's interesting to see how Ferrari will be dealing with this - They won't. Their focus will be on reducing weight and improved efficiency while keeping HP pretty much where it is now.

ferrari is just the first (as usual) to see the trickle down effect from professional motor sports. it will happen with all the sports cars soon enough but i wouldn't bet that what ferrari is doing will be the same direction these cars are going. as long as people buy performance sedans expecting every comfort amenity available and keep checking every single upgrade possible on their build sheet i wouldn't expect sport saloons to lose much weight.

This makes more sense to me as you can keep current HP numbers yet still improve acceleration times and MPG. Imagine a completly carbon fiber and light weight space age material E55 that weighed just 500 less than the current model? How about a 1000lbs less?
Think about how many guys on here try to shave 20lbs here on the wheels, 30lbs there on the brakes. Wouldn't it be much more efficient to just shave weight through lighter body work?
Imagine an E55/E63 that weighed 3000lbs, had the same HP, but accelerated 0-60 in the high 3s low 4s, and even got 30+MPG due to the weight reduction! Now that's something I would covet more than 1000 horsies.
