Some competition...600hp competition.
Audi’s RS6 will get more than 571hp
Posted on Monday 27 August 2007
preview_Audi_rs6_avant.jpgWe recently reported that leaked vehicle chassis codes for the new Audi RS6 specced the output from its twin-turbo V10 engine at 571hp (426kW). Recent information from a source at Audi, however, has put this figure in doubt. The reliable source claims that the 571hp will only be the specified figure Audi will market the car with. True output will be upwards of 600hp, with 610hp (455kW) pegged as the most likely figure. It looks like Audi is taking no chances with the ultimate “wolf in sheep’s clothing” model and even BMW’s excellent V10 motor will struggle to compete with this kind of power output.
To give you an idea of just how high this figure is, the RS6 will churn out more horses than the Corvette Z06, BMW M6, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Ferrari F430 Scuderia, Aston Martin DBS, Porsche 911 GT2, and even Mercedes’ epic bi-turbo V12 CL65 AMG.
While we’re always happy to see manufacturers pushing the limit, surely there comes a time when outright power figures get out of control. The previous RS6 wasn’t a slow car by any stretch of the imagination, but the new model will likely become the most practical supercar ever made. At least owners will have a full-time AWD system to help keep them out of trouble.

Are they going to put this engine in the new RS5? To me, that'd be the ultimate performance coupe.
I am not a big fan of sedans, but a V10TT, comon! If priced right, this will be one hell of a machine. Imagine the tuning potential!

This is verrrrrry good thing.
Just not much more you can do to the current 6.3 AND STILL KEEP IT RELIABLE to get it to 600hp range.
Benz is gonna have to counter with something and we all know what it will be.
I say hurry up Audi....and send me some prices on um while you're at it.

SL55 AMG, M5 E60, 2002 S55 AMG, Range Rover Sport Supercharged,
Gaah! Audi, what are they thinking? They're being cheapo *******s! I mean come on! It's too easy to throw in 2 turbochargers in already powerful enough V-10!
And the end result is an easy way to over 600 horses?!
Guess Audi isn't taking any chances and seriously wants to be that much faster than the M5 and E55/63 AMG?
Then the next M5 would also have to get over 600 horses along with the next E AMG and CLS etc...

1,000 HP on the street is also ubsurd and unusable. An aquaintance had a Lingenfelter twin turbo Vette that dynoed at almost 1,100 HP. It was outright dangerous to drive. It would break the tires loose at any speed by accident. He was an experienced road racer and sold the car because he was scared he would die in it.

While I'm not an engineer, it occurs to me that the new 6.2 L AMG V8 could be redesigned to lower the compression ratio, and have it's components beefed up to allow reliable supercharging or turbocharging if they wanted to go for even more power. Anybody knowledgeable enough about engine design to comment on that possibility?
i've read multiple times here that AMG will slap on twin turbos on the 6.2

E63 with 600hp+, will be useless in real driving with the current setup.
You can increase the power all you want but with no traction it would be all wasted through tire smoke or ,as currently, eutanized by the electronic nannies.
Audi's advantage here is their Quattro system that will make the use of all that magnificent power very practical.(tuners will make it even more exciting with those turbos).
Just look at the Veyron, most powerful car in the World and one of the easiest to drive.

.............i like the power and the nterior. The exterior fails to evoke an emotional response, good or bad.

If you compare an RS6 with the boost cranked up against a modded E55, the Audi should be the clear winner.

Now also taking into consideration drive train loss of 4wd system that people mention.
The only example I know of a killer 4wd car is the veron...but it has 16 cylinders and 4 turbos the murci is an other. Evo and sti’s to
Most top super cars are rear wheel drive… is there not a reason for this?
But I must say this car is looking mighty tasty and I wish it the best of luck

With AWD, this car will launch like a **** and stick on turns. With that much power AWD is important. Look at the SL65's, you try and launch those on the streets and all you get is smoke. Rear drive may be quicker on a roll, lighter, and "more fun"...but I think the Audi quattro system will be ideal for this type of car and I wouldn't want it in rear drive. Remember, this is supposed to be a daily driver, not an exotic.
