Oil change E55
What type of oil or grade do you guys use for the E55 and how often do you change, how many quarts of oil do you use? Thanks for the input.

Can't tell which Mobil 1 the dealer uses, but my last invoice shows 8 quarts. I have had 5 oil changes in 12k miles, but I don't drive my car often.
Only once have I had to add oil, and that was only after an Atco track rental.

Use Royal Purple 5w40 or 10w40 same spec to Mobil 1 0w40 is what AMG says to use (sponsorship and partnership with them) out outlast theirs in the lab test and use 8 quarts of it. Try it once or a lifetime!

There is no dipstick.... but there is a dipstick hole w/ a red cover (if you face the car, it's on the upper corner left of the airbox).
You could buy the dipstick from stealership... but it's quite pricey (I think it's $120 ).
So what I did when changing the oil myself is to completely drain the oil through dipstick hole using vacuum pump (mityvac), and then I fill 8qt first. Run the engine for couple minutes.... shut it off and check the oil level. It will then say I need x qt. to put to max. level. The last time around I was asked to add 1qt. so total was about 9qt. after I took everything out.
But I agree w/ BrianS, using dipstick tool is more accurate.... but hey, I'm too cheap

Yacht, I believe I've heard that before....
Do you by any chance have the special service advisory?
My main purpose is to replace some, if not all, of the old oil w/ fresh one. Using vacuum pump may not be as ideal as draining from the bottom (e.g. not extract all old oil) but having fresher oil in the engine would do more good than harm, right?
It's just like if you're only changing the oil filter but not the oil, I believe it will still be better than doing nothing....
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You can not vacuume (you can but the motor has 2 sumps so you will have 1-2 quarts left in engine) an E55K it has 2 drain plugs and must be drained from below as per AMG. The drain plugs are a one time use plug and must be replaced after removal. Mercedes and AMG have a special service advisory about this. How do I know? I am on 5th oil change @ 16K miles cause leaking drain plugs.
Here are some pics thanks to Finny, shows the pan and drain plugs.

Sack,
Don't worry the 63 has one pan and was designed to allow the oil to be vacuum extracted. The E55 has two pans and two drain plugs totally different.

I just changed my oil and filter this weekend along with new drain plugs. It took 9 quarts exactly (8.5L) which is what the WIS states for capacity on the if you change the filter too. I tried 8qts to see what happened and the oil monitor said one quart low, as well as, the "measuring stick" reading 153mm. Adding the 9th quart brought it to 168mm.

gentlemen: for the 2005 model, at least, they TSB now states that the drain plugs must be removed for oil changes. This is a change from earlier where the dealership was vacuum extracting the used oil, so...Joker
