Just joined the 2004 E55 club last night!

Traded in my 2003 M3 6 speed last night for a 2004 CPO E55! Amazing car. I'm still figuring out all the electronic gadgets in this thing. I paid 43k OTD, 58K miles (i know, high, but the service records were great and they were all highway miles, plus the extended warranty gave me some relief).

Options:

-Lighting package
-Navigation
-Panoramic roof
-Dynamic seats
-Distronic
-Key LESS go

I love it. I thought my M3 made decent torque, but this just flat out puts it to shame. I wasnt on the road 5 minutes before I ran a GTO on the highway to 120.

I have a few questions though, the middle cup holder wont come up when I push the open button, how do I remove it to see if anything is wrong? Any easy way? What is the difference exactly between sport suspension setting 1 and 2, and also dynamic seat setting 1 and 2?

And of course, PICS!

The cupholder, if its the same as the one in the '03, is a POS. I'm on my 3rd or 4th one. It just pulls straight up & out with a little force.

I have never been able to feel any significant difference between sport 1 & sport 2. I have tried back to back runs around the same slow bend with comfort the 1st time and sport 2 the second. There was a significant increase in the speed I could carry through the curve with sport 2 and the car was much more in control.

Not sure on the difference in dynamic seat settings.

Congrats & enjoy.

BTW, I had a guy in a GTO try to race me a couple of days ago when my kids were in the car with me. As much as I wanted to run, with forced restraint, I let him go (my 10 year old is already paying way too much attention to daddy's driving habits). The a-hole honked & gave me the finger when I wouldn't run, further reinforcing the mullet-sporting, NASCAR wannabe, redneck image. I very much wanted to show my kids what it was like to "put 'em in the wall".

Good job bro. You gotta give um a couple 0-60 runs though. My kids love the 0-60's. They always want more, but it's just dumb to hammer with kids in the car.

Nice buy. I'm hoping to pick one up some day. With the CDN $ almost on par with USD it's tempting to pick up one in the states and bring it back over.

A local '05 will be $75 - $80K CDN vs. ~ $45K US if I bought one down there.

I was on a bridge already doing 65 in a 45 with some traffic. Coming off the bridge it drops to 35 with cops hiding in the bushes, dropping out of trees, and popping up out of the manholes to nail people so the conditions just weren't right. The only time that I ever ran anyone with my kids in the car was on the interstate late one night when they were sleeping, and it was only 2 short bursts from 70 to 110-115 (still a bad idea).

The funny thing is, my 4 year old just loves it when I get on it, but my 10 year old is just like his mother, "don't do that, are you speeding, I can't pull my head off of the seat when you do that".

It was covered under warranty. If your car is under warranty, just have the dealer take it out. Even if you purchase one, I would bet that they would put it in for you, as it only takes 20 seconds or so to change them. I can't remember the exact price, but they were in the $80-$130 range if I recall.

I was a little apprehensive the 1st time I took mine out, but you just have to apply firm pressure upwards and it will come out. I don't think that it is possible to break anything taking it out, unless you just don't stop pulling and smash the sunroof or something. Mine came out easier with the armrest raised out of the way.

Sorry, I just re-read that you've got a CPO. Call the dealer and have them order a new cupholder for you. They'll let you know when it's in and save you an extra trip just to order it.

My old E55 used to have that same issue regarding the cup holder. There is probably something stuck at the bottom. You can just yank it out, but I don't recommend that. I suggest taking it in and having it replaced.

The updated cup holder is much nicer.

I made the same transition, from an '04 M3 to an '04 E55. I have to be honest, the M3 wasn't as much of a comfy GT car, much stiffer and handled better. But the torque of the E55 makes you quickly forget that....
