E55 or Porsche GT750?
What would you prefer if you could only choose one...I have been wrestling about getting rid of the E55 as I have never owned a car for more than 4 years:
1. 2003 E55 ~510 rwhp??, 39K miles (my car). $28-30K in upgrades. Warranty to 100K.
2. 2002 996-TT Evom GT750 auto with 680awhp on 100 octane, 640 awhp on 93 octane. 35K miles. 11K miles on upgrades. 10.40@140 with 1.6X 60-foot. $50K in upgrades.
(daily driver: '06 Honda Civic)

I would pick the porsche up for 58-62K...no warranty.
Wife is saying hell no since we have a 1 year old but thats why i have a civic with a baby seat in the back...i don't think the porsche would fit a baby seat. I think I am losing this battle...Uggg.
Any suggestions?

If there is a baby involved the E55 is the safer and slower choice. Who knows when the Civic may not be available and yes the 996 is not baby safe, I had a 996TT stage III.
Now patiently waiting for a stupid Rock cut and paste comment cause he has nothing else to do

2003 E55 AMG
say the porsche could be an investment and will eventually stop depreciating and start gaining value and then you can pass it on to your kid. Its a stretch but it could show your wife you really really want the car haha.

I have told my wife that it would stop depreciating but she is dead set on having baby seats in ALL 3 of our cars. The GT750 would only be $500 more per month than my darn civic...having both cars would be great but I think I am dreaming.
Vic is the 996 not safe because it won't fit a baby seat in the back? I would never want to put the baby in a 10 second car for fear of her safety but in a pinch it would be good to know one way or another for argument sake.

His next project is a 997 TT EvoMS but right now they only have a 610 package and he only drives 9 and 10 second cars.

Sell the Civic and the E55. Get a cheap grand Dodge Caravan or some other generic SUV/mini-van and save the 996tt for the weekends. A Caravan isn't too far from driving a Civic so it should't matter.
The automatic in the Porsche is a big plus because clutch jobs are not cheap. However, I can't imagine the auto tranny is strong enough to hold that power long term. My guess is that you will need to replace it a few times over the years if driven hard. Not a big deal if it's a weekend car but how much is a replacement tranny?

e55 baller,
If you can get an 02 GT700 for low $60s that would be a great deal.
Also, there is no problem getting a baby seat in the front seat. You just need a Porsche baby seat that has a special belt that disables the passenger SRS. I had no problem taking my kids for rides in my GT2.
However 10.4@140 is very optimistic though. I would guess under great conditions, a GT700 w/ Tiptronic would be closer to 11.0 at maybe 130 on pump gas. If you are using 100+ octane, you will get a few MPH using the race file. Still very fast though.
I say sell the E55 and get the 996tt. The P-Car is a lot less practical, but you will have a lot more fun.
Good luck!

I agree that the interior isn't up to par with the 997s or the E55 and I don't like the head lights on the 996 and the 993 TTs are worth more than alot of the 996s.
Here are the 4 closest comparables I could find....none are clearing on eBay or DP.

How much do you think my '03 E55 (40K miles) would sell for given the mods in my sig? $50-55K?

The market is very soft for these cars. Do you have the 100,000 mile 3 year extended warranty? If not, you would probably be around $40,000 but you might get closer to $50K with the right buyer.

That TT sounds fabulous ... my brother-in-law managed to get a Porsche car seat in the rear but there is zero trunk space in that AWD car... if you could get more than a handbag in the front trunk I think I would have got one ages ago over the E. But if you have a civic and one other it does not make pratical sense to have the TT as much as you would like it.
GT2's have slightly more luggage space with no front wheel drive and also have the larger gas tank but then are a little more of a handfull in the handling dept... so
I say flip the civc use the benz as DD and smoke the TT when you are are 2 up... for $500 / month over the civic its a no brainer...
Damn the cars in the US are cheap!!! Cars here are mad its about $70,000 for a used 996 C2!!!!!!

One thing is that if I was to get mod 996 TT...I would buy used low mile TT and then mod it...
I like the crey one...but I wouldnt get a TT with more then 10k miles on the clock...I like used but almost new cars
Are you sure that this car has trap 140 miles and runs 10.40 ??? Time is OK but trap speed is very high...what is the millage of this car ???
