Carbon fiber hood

I've been searching around for a carbon fiber hood for my e55 and this is the best deal I found so far: http://www.carbonfiberhoods.net/prod...oducts_id/2299
I'm planning to contact them tomorrow and see if they can make one with vents.

It says up to 50% in the description.

Sam:Keep us posted if you get one. Looks like they offer it for S55's too and I'll get one if you're satisfied with yours.

Do you know how much the OEM hood weighs?

I'm waiting for a CF hood, too. I contacted Vorsteiner about their vented CF hood, which is still in development. This is what they emailed me back on 9/26:

Dear Jon,

I apologize for your first 2 emails. The current status for the CF hood
for the E55 is still in the developing state. I currently don’t have an
exact ETA on production date. Please check back with me directly in 5
weeks. Thank you

Subject: Interested Buyer

To Whom It May Concern,

I would like to get more information on the status of your production of
a CF vented hood for the E55 AMG. I have a 2004 E55 and I am interested
in getting this modification for my car. This is my third request for
information via email. The first two emails (both to sales departmetn)
did not get any response from your company. I hope that you can give me
an update of any kind on the product. I do not care if you tell me it
will never be produced, delayed, or it will be next year...just let me
know so I won't keep asking.

Thank you.

Regards,

Jon Razon

Don't get all hyped on 50%. The hood weighs under 40lbs or so as it is.

Jangy is right, the hood is aluminum and is light to begin with.

Besides the minimal weight savings, do you think a vented hood will help in cooling the engine compartment?

I've seen their hoods on their site and only like the look of the M6 version...I hope they go that way rather than the other ones on their site...

screw cooling the engine compartment...i dream about an e55 hood similar to that with vents that seal to the top of a custom airbox.

You can get some cooling effect of a vented hood without cutting in vents. This can be done with your OEM hood for free. I just did it to mine and it does release a ton of heat.

Dont hold your breath buddy. I've been waiting on the W208 hood that is "in development" for over a year now.

The iftment of most c/f hoods suck, I'm speaking from experience. If anyone finds a company that makes hoods that fit well let me know!

Well for this money I am definately INN...

But I only intresed in CF hood with vents like Brabus has or simular...

Been told by Evotech Russia that the vents really help at higher speed to get rid of underhood heat...and the does not over heat at all...

Lets Make a group buy !!!

Also ask them if they can make brabus style CF front grill...it wold look killer along with CF hood...

Seems like there're at least 3 vendors working on cf hoods with vents for our cars. I also contacted the company above and was told if they can get enough buyers they will produce one as well for a reasonable price. My car is silver with pano roof and black centers 547 HRE rims, so if I add a black vented cf hood and trunk with a built in spoiler, just the sides of the car will be silver and I think it'll look hot

If we are thinking the same thing,a few of us have already done it....just be careful when you wash it! And yes it does let out some heat.

Now your talking! Reroute the air box intake side to the vent on the top back side of the hood.I can picture it in my mind but dont want to go through the hassles of making the air box.Cold air induction like the old chevy cowl hoods.

i'm glad someone is on the same page as i am, except i was thinking of getting rid of the intake all together and open up the top of the airbox to mate with the vents. imagine, an airbox with a limitless volume of cold air...and the growl it would make...people would sh*t!!!

Lose the stock air box entirely.Make a box that would run from the tb directly upward to the opening area(vented part of hood)with the filter element between the vented area and the box.It could be a simple injection molded box that houses the filter in the top of it.Only draw back is water getting into the filter way to esy, this would be a track only item.Unless you could find a way to keep the water out.You would also have to seal it with a sift rubber seal between hood and filter housing,to keep engine bay heat out.
