newbie. just bought an 08 e63 amg. woohoo
been battling internally for weeks.
i have a cayenne turbo after an s4.
c4s? nope. no room. not practical. not a turbo.
m5? well, uh, maybe. big power but looks average. not inspired by it. nope.
m6? looks badass. but similar issues of impracticality as porsche.
rs4? awesome car. well priced. but i've done audi's.
what to do. what to do.
so i'm driving by the merc shop and have a little extra time... "do you have anything really fast... in m5 category?..."
and wow! there she is. all black and beautiful. with cross-the-pond wrapping still on her. tear it off. sit inside. stand next to her. i am, dare i say, actually excited! i am inspired by this car. i can hardly contain my enthusiasm. after all the test drives and web site reviews and endless callbacks from salesmen i have finally found the car ive been looking for all along.
we drove an e55 amg thinking to myself "is mine really going to be better than this?"
i pick it up tomorrow. 4 o clock. yes!
please feel free to give any break-in tips.
tho i'm sure it is all covered in this forum somewhere.

Congrats, I had similiar feelings about the M5(so-so styling)/M6(non-usable back seat) and am considering a used cayenne turbo for the wife's next ride. The E63 styling is a little updated from our 55s, but the debate goes on, which is faster. Welcome to the club.

I think I read that the AMG testing procedures are done cold on a test stand, not a simulated race loop with the engine running. They recommend a specific period of break-in driving with limitations. I followed it carefully, and recommend you do too, given the occasional issues the 63 motor is having with oil consumption, etc.

Welcome, I remember thinking the same thing, I ordered mine, I had first 08 off the line and I was wondering if all the money I paid for a loaded P30 08 was going to feel like it was worth it. YES, especially when I **** DESTROYED my first E55. My friend has an E55 and theres this whole whats faster debate, well as far as P30 goes, I am alot faster than my friend and he can no longer talk ****, LOL. (we aren't that close of friends, actually more like colleges)
