new 20" wheel help
hi i have had my black 05 e55 for 2 weeks, am looking at a sevas forged r77 3 piece wheel for my black 05 e55.i am going 20x10 in rear. should i go with a 20x9 or 20x8.5 in the front. i will be using a renntech lowing module. i want to avoid any chance of rubbing. would the proper tire sizes be 245/30 and 295/25 or something else? just curious as to how little sidewalk will there be, i also don't want the stretched tire look. my mods next week will be a stage 1 package with a cooling upgrade from Adam at Euro Elites, e63 rear spoiler, illiminated door sills. also curious how many people here from the bay area regretted getting 20's for our roads. i"ll post pics next week. thanks, Neveo

You need to find out what the offsets are for the wheels. IMO, 34mm for the front and 35 - 36mm would be ideal for the tire sizes you're wanting to run. 295/25/20 has more sidewall thickness than 285/25/20. The roads in the Bay Area sucks. I cringe everytime I hit a pothole or bump on the highway. Fortunately, as a result of the Radengeries being so heavy, they won't bend so easily.

you will have to work the offsets to get a 295 under there. i run 275/30 but most run 285/25. i like more side wall thats why i go 30series.
if you want performance you will want 19s over the 20s. but for pure looks i like 20s better. you also get alot better tire selection with 19s.

will there be substantially more sidewall in the 19's? this is my normal driver. drove up 101 today in my stock wheels and also realized how crappy some of our bay area roads are. lastly i thought i heard someone say that 19's with wide lips look small on the car. thanks

No substantial difference. Take a look:
285/25/20 tire
((285/25.4)*.25) = 2.8" sidewall height
295/25/20 tire
((295/25.4)*.25) = 2.9" sidewall height
Generally, all wheels with lip look a size smaller. 19" wheels with lip will look the same size as stock E63 AMG 18" wheels.
I just realized my numbers are for 20" wheels. Ok, here are the numbers with 19" wheels.
275/30/19 tires; the most common tire size used with 19" wheels.
((275/25.4)*.30) = 3.24" side wall height.
So, the difference in sidewall height for tires between 19" and 20" wheels is about .44"

19s usually look pretty small on W211s unless you ride pretty low. From the sound of it, you don't want an uncomfortable ride so going 19s with higher profile tires will give you better protection, but aesthetically they won't look as nice.

i think it was about 3.5. i want the look of 20's ,im willing to make a little sacrifice on the comfort .will it be like riding a rigid frame M/C or a go cart? i prefer driving it in sport 1 or 2.

i guess is the ride with the 19's far superior to the ride with the 20's. i have 19's on my qvale mangusta and it isnt really bad. this isnt my main car mostly i use drive it 5 miles to and from my office. i like the existing performance but i like the look of 20's as long as it doesnt feel like im riding on metal? anyone that's ridden both want to chime in. this

Look at it this way....
Would you want to spend $4k only to come up short by one inch?

Well, I don't know what I wacked... but now my lip is bent on the FL and RL wheels. 20" are easy to bang up even if you're extra careful... kinda sucks.
