Video: AMG Drag Day - California Speedway 10/26/2007

I was using a digital still camera so I was limited in what I could do in the video. Lots of fun thanks to everyone who came out. Look forward to the next meet.

Man thats a great Vid That Silver CLS is me. That was my 1st run ever I forgot to turn off ESP and tried to do a burn out But I got the hang of thing fast. My second time I did a massive burn out and Mr. line man stopped me from racing without a helmet. It was a great day. Nice meeting you guys.

The lone M5 that signed up had some SMG probs and took his car to the dealership. There were some 335's putting down some nice runs real close to our stock 63's. 12.44-12.7. I guess the fastest 335 in the USA was there and ran a 12.44@112. I met the fastest SVT in the USA Mike Brady, awesome guy gave me a tour of his SUPERCHARGED truck with NOS putting down 1000hp to the wheels.. He ran 10.7 @130.

so yeah no M5/M6.

Great vid AMIR!!

Rick wheres our super vid mix, I bet your planning your next mod? Can I have your wheels to drive down to AZ this weekend

At one point I had 400 lbs on my engine... sadly the 63 MUST BE COOLED to run well, heat kills hp and we had plenty of it.

I keep saying I have learned not to hot lap but well seems I always get trapped "maybe this time my car will be ok" , I NEED A COOLING MOD now please!

Hey, So my best trap was run when my oil temp was @107c at about
4:15pm. Does this mean the beast has more to give us?.. Man the ride home was long but once I made it out of the traffic the car was on fire. Those drag runs brought the car to life. Again guys ,what a great day, Thanks

I came to work this morning so I haven't had a chance to see the footage. I know at one point I ran out of disc space. I sure hope it wasn't when I was at track side filming you, trez and the others. I'll check it out tonight.

Thanks for the info.

Wow those 335's must have been running some serious boost pressure. It also appears that the 63's were in fact a bit faster than the 55's (stock/stock)?

there was only one stock 55(Jangy) he was hot lapping most of the day , when comparing to this 55 yeah the 63's were all faster. The 55 seemed to be quicker to 330 feet but could not hold off the 63. Hopefully some of these guys post time slips. My times ranged from 12.7@112 to 13.18@108.6, my worst run was my last after racing Jangy SIX straight times and an oil temp of 123 degrees C..I still outrapped him. 108.59 to 107.8. He did really well for his first time and hopefully he will come back for some more fun on Nov 30th

Rick, it was great meeting you. Your car looked world class, not a single drop of dust before and after racing.... Absolute beauty

Your car has a lot more to give, and it will show on November 30th.......

I have a good feel for my car and it felt fine. The altitude may affect the 55 more, but dunno. Other than that. Greg (E63) and I were running identical setups (both with 275 DRs). My only "mod" was not having my snorkles in place (since they are being copied for CF), but that shouldn't even matter at speed.

I basically had everyone from the dig up to about 330' and then I went pretty flat. It felt like it does in the mountains, so I just assumed it was altitude.

Greg and I raced 4 times and he beat me on all four.

There were two (what I would call stage 2) cars there and they were a solid 0.8 seconds faster than me, so either the mods really help or I do have some issue.

All in all, had a blast. It was neat to meet a different crew and I will be back for sure. Gotta have someone representing bragging rights.

But why not mention that I also had an et of 12.932 vs your 13.18 on that run PLUS you red-flagged the start!!

Your right

Jangy's 55 beat me 5/8 times in heads up but was outrapped on all 8 runs. He had some INCREDIBLE R/t , cutting lights of a real drag pro. This gave him an edge all day but most are concerned with his top end. He should jump and stay in front much like a 63 would do to a 63 or 55 to a 55, the car that cuts the better light in stock trim wins EVERYTIME.

So Jangy please do not take my reporting of trap as somehow I am bragging cause I am not. You did great as a driver, but your car should be trapping higher, 110-113 IMHO..

Thanks for coming out, next time I aint hot lapping, nope gotta break my record and hot lapping will not help any car , 55 guys do you get your best times doing multiple runs or cooling the car down?

I suffer from the "keep it like the day it came out of the factory syndrome" along with the "oh it's time to get something else too soon syndrome" and "not let anyone wash or wax the car except me syndrome" lol.

Did Phil share the car's name with any of you guy's?

Phil didn't also bring his Bentley did he???

Which car has better factory gearing for 0-60, the 55's or 63's? Would it be hard to figure since it's 5 sp vs. a 7 spd?

Glad to hear it's still spotless. Although we've never met in person just yet Phil seems like a great guy as we talk often.

The car's name is "Charlie" as my girlfriend named it when she heard the English chick on the nav system and it just stuck...she really misses Charlie and so do I but I know she's in a good home. Man wish I could have been there and would have loved to have given my 997S a spin or two down the track but I live in S FL.

The rims on your car look stunning!

0 - 60 is a speed thing, but any short distance (including 0 - 60) would be the main strength of the E55. The shorter the run, the better.

The 63 needs to get some legs under it before it really takes off. I tell ya though, Once it takes off, the gearing is MUCH better from 80 - 120.

Thats funny! Yep,Phil's a great guy to shoot the shiat with.

Funny story from that day.Early in the day,Juicee, myself and a few others were leaning on the fence watching the cars race at about the half track mark.We watched a few fast cars make some passes, then a few BMW's,then we see the silver 55 of Phils staging at the lights so we keep our eyes peeled to see what happens.Phil takes off and we all have our eyes glued to his car cause its his first pass of the day, soon as he gets even with us juicee and I both look at each other and start laughing...Phil goes by, he has his left arm rested on the top of the door and his fingers on the wheel,no helmet on and he runs something like a 12.8 at 112....just as if he was off for a sunday drive,it was hilarious. He's so calm and laid back!

Juicee...did ya get that on video?

Its more of a torque issue over gearing.55's have the torque.A set of lower gears in the 63's combined with the 7g trans might be effective though.

I remember back in the muscle car days that guys with numerically higher gears/rears ie; 4:11's+ had much better 0-60 and QM times than the same cars with lower ones...but the car's top speed was drastically lowered.
