dyno loss with air tubes removed

jangy...you paying attention!

local shop just dyno'd a members 32amg after some mods and for fun they removed the air tubes and made two runs. the dyno was run with the hood up and fans blowing into the engine bay and it still LOST 25hp and 20tq!!!!!!!!!!!!!! seems the air tubes either create velocity, resonance...or a combination of both. that's about all the speculation i'll do for now. i'd post the dyno's but i don't want to do it without the owner's permission.

LOL!! I am listening. I actually got mine back the other day and put them back on. The Butt dyno feels it, but dunno. I've come to believe that there would be a real loss at take-off, since the air going in would be hot. But, once it is moving, I didn't know that there was that much temp and or ram difference on the air. I believe you.

HHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAA! Now I have to show up on the 30th, if only to shatter Greg's month long hard on!!!

Hotter Air = Less Power. I have verified this a number of times on the dyno. Even when the car is moving.

Jangy, this is one reason why you were only trapping 107-108 mph at the drags.

he was!

Jangy is a step ahead of us all, imo. This guy has tremendous courage. Unfortunately this may have skewed his runs a bit and led to his low traps, but the guy was very very consistant and it was HOTTER THAN HELL PLUS THE FIRES. Many here have confirmed to me heat effects the 55 more than it doies the 63 so perhaps the ambient temps sucked his HP. Hopefully he can throw em back on and try again.

They are back on and I'll stay stock for the 30th. I'm going to Willows on the 28th and 29th for road rage and then I'll head over to re-do the original matchup.
Last time I just showed up because people wanted to see a stock E55 vs a stock E63. I didn't know the tubes made a difference, and had mine at a friend's house.
We'll see if I get 25 horses back. I was pulling on R today, and I wasn't before but we haven't had too many times to play.

Mikey.. Maybe we should do a test with the stock tubes vs the Pythons and see if there is any flow difference on the dyno.. What do you think?

that would be very cool...even take it a step further by adding the airbox after.

I have an airbox I can bring. I really wonder if the added volume will help with launches by having more air free and ready. Once running, I dunno the difference or if it will affect the pressures.
Does anyone have the pythons that we could try? I got my OEM tubes back, so we can set this up many ways.

OT: VRUS, I may want a set of those pythos, now that I'm learning. The OEMs are just too thin.

$550CDN for the Pythons is a great price..

MafiosoCLS got great results with airbox and tubes on his car with no other mods.

They have over a 30% increase in volume over stock if I am remembering the numbers correctly.

Someone grab a set and do some 1/4mile blasts..

There are a few guys in Cali that have the airtubes and airboxes...

You guys should do some 1/4mile blasts:

- Stock airbox, stock tubes
- Stock airbox w/Pythons
- VRP airbox w/Pythons
