E55 or CL65...Hmmmmmm
Well I am debating..., I want more power and seems I will not make it to the 10's without NOS on the 55. I love the car but in a distant future would probably trade it in for something else. I have a lot of money invested in the 55 but we will see what happens. I value the opinion of many board members here and would appreciate your input. I have been talking to a few members already that own the CL, one for example Vic55 and he has given me some good advice. , I would love to hear from you guys what would be best.
With the prices of the 65's dropping so quickly you could find something good at the auctions for maybe even low to high 60's. I know the 65 is not as agile as the 55 at higher speeds, specially around the turns but in straight line It probably would not hang with it.
If you chip the 65 should be able to get at least in the high 10's I would hope, so let's hear the great ideas...
Anybody know curb weight compared to E55?

Sorry I havent gotten back to you yet Jody I have been swamped its my busy time of year. A properly tuned 65 will put you in the high 10's in good weather. If u want to go real fast and have few limitations on tuners and HP road blocks its time to leave the Mercedes family. If i could do it again i would get a Porsche 997tt or 996tt and be done.

Can't believe the 65 in Scottsdale that runs upper 10's, and that's at those rough altitude and conditions.
Imagine that car at Etown or Moroso on the perfect night.
10.5 anyone??

I hear what you are saying but if I get a 997 or a 996, it will cost me a nice penny to modify it yet alone to buy it as opposed to just buy the CL and throw a few k's in there and Walla!!!! 10's for sure in comfort mode, lol!

CL65
There was a time where I was looking into getting a CLS55 and going all out on it (full renntech and n20) but after looking at how much the CL65's depreciated and how easy they are to mod, it would have made absolutely no sense to jump into a 55k and drop at least 20 thousand into it when for a couple of G's, I get a simple flash that'll throw me into the 10's. Plus CL is 2 doors, I always liked 2 doors better. Not to mention its just a more expensive car and more exclusive. CL65 is top of the line. Go for it bro.

What's up Jody!
We've had this conversation a few times before. The 55k motor does seem like an endless money pit! LOL....You are making me want to trade my car in for something else now!
I think you're on the right track brother. If you don't care that you will be driving an old body style with an outdated interior, then I think the W215 CL65 is a perfect choice. It's still got lots of presence and still draws lots of attention. If I were you I would rather get the SL65, but its like 20k more. With just an ECU and TCU, and some drags, which I know you will always have on, you will definitley be in the 10s.

Does the CL65 handle as well as the E55? How agile is the CL65? I know the powerplant in the CL65 is monstrous, but is it a boat in the handling department?
I have had the same thoughts, but cannot put up with handling abilities below the E55, which are less than ideal in the first place.
Thanks

For those who can't afford the 65's, the 600's still do an incredible job. We all know what Jay's beast is capable of. Also, don't forget about Joe (I think his username is V12TTRennTech or something) who got LOW 11's with an eisenmann and RT stage I. 600's are a bargain and are soooo easy to upgrade. But of course, if you can go 65 then by all means go for it.
Me, personally, I would love to get a Porsche 996TT and do the whole K24/18 or similiar turbo swap and see 630whp and 10 sec 1/4 miles...but the thing thats incredible about the 65's is that they are luxury cars, automatics, soft suspensions, roomy and incredibly comfortable interior, still ballin', still demands respect and offers prestige and class.
The other thing is that I think picking girls up in a CL, letting them put the seat back, turn on the messaging seats, bumpin' something to get them in the mood, puttin the pedal to the floor and letting them get pinned to the seats, all while going over bumps and imperfections in the road with no fuss...that to me is priceless. In something like a Porsche, I gotta be shifting, slowing down for bumps and swerving. The harsh ride is vastly different. I'd jump on a CL65 in no time, my only beef is the exterior is outdated and I've shown some pics to people and I've heard lots of "it looks just like your CLK." I'm definitely adding a CL65 to my list of "future cars" though lol.
On thing you really have to look at with a CL65 is all you need is intercooler, ECU flash, exhaust, and n2o and you will see mid 10's. Where in the world could you get that speed with arguably one of the most luxurious GT's this side of a Bentley?

Yes Frank, but aren't they still going for over 100k? I can find a 996TT from 60-70k. The other thing is that the 911 has room in the back for the chicas, the SL is strictly a 2 seater. I love the hard top convertible though...my dad had an SL55 and it was a GREAT car (minus the lemon-lawed issues lol).
