Bluetooth Phone Compatibility Issue

Hello. I just moved into the bluetooth age by replacing the ancient V60 in my 2004 E55 with the bluetooth puck. My wife's Razor works great with it but I have a problem with my new phone. I just purchased the brand new LG Venus which is an awesome phone. It syncs well with the bluetooth in the car and I can get and receive calls perfectly. The problem is that it won't download the phone's contact list to the COMAND screen like it's supposed to.

On the Razor it worked automatically and flawlessly but it won't do it on the new LG Venus. Does anybody know if there is some setting I'm missing or if it's just some small compatibility issue or what. Everything else works great and I really don't want to return the phone because I love it. Any help that could be provided would be forever appreciated. Thanks!

Well, CRAP!

I demoed a Venus in my car yesterday and could place and receive calls without a problem via my V60 bluetooth puck. But since the phone was a brand new demo, I never even thought about adding a contact to it and seeing if it downloaded. I assumed that since calls were working the phonebook would work too.

I ended up going with the Voyager instead of the Venus. I pick it up tomorrow and I'll see if I can get my phonebook to download.

Stay tuned.

Well guys, I figured it out!

I just happen to have a new Venus sitting on my counter top. Don't ask, long story. Anyway, I paired it up with my car, no problem. Sure enough, it didn't download my phonebook. But I figured out how to make it work. Do this:

1. After successfully pairing your phone go back to the bluetooth menu and highlight the Mercedes connection

2. Choose "drop". This will drop the connection but keep it in history.

3. Highlight the MB connection again and choose "options"

4. Choose "Send Name Card" It will then bring up all of your contacts.

5. Choose "Mark All", then "Done"

6. Go back to the bluetooth menu and highlight the MB connection again.

7. Choose Connect.

Give it a minute or two and your phonebook will download.

Now, please paypal me $20.00 for my trouble.

Enjoy, I can't wait to get my Voyager tomorrow.

Thank you! You are 90% brilliant!! Want to shoot for 100%?
This trick gets the phone to download the contact list but if you make changes to that list the phone does not automatically update COMAND like it should. Instead it will display the last contact list you forced it to download. The only way I could get it to update the list was by going through your routine again. I also tried pressing the button on the Bluetooth puck once as the directions on that device says to do (to force an update) but that wiped out the contact list from COMAND altogether. Granted, I don't change my contacts on a daily basis so this is probably an entirely livable situation but I was wondering if you knew how to solve this updating issue?

I've been using my blackberry pearl for a while now and have had no issue. No address book download like your LG. I wanted to try out my new Razor but for the life of me cannot remember the bluetooth connect PIN #. Please help.

Should be a four digit number on the label on the underside of the puck.

BTW, just for posterities sake if anyone does a search in future...no downloads (but good call operation) with a Sony Eriscsson M600i.

Yeah, even my RAZR is like that, and most likely your wife's is too. If I add a contact to my RAZR, I have to complete un-pair then re-pair it to the car to get the new contact to download. You'll most likely have to do the "Send Name Card" trick whenever you make changes to your contacts. Really, how often does that happen anyway?

Got my Voyager today. It's bad ***!

The PIN is the same 5 digit number for all V60 pucks. It's 62872 or "MBUSA" if you spell it out on the keypad.

I think you're right about having to do that great trick every time you update your phone's contact list. That's not a big thing. Actually on my wife's RAZR V3c, all you have to do is press once the blue button on the bluetooth puck and it would update the contact list automatically. That is very cool. Unfortunately, that doesn't work on the new LG. Depending on your model RAZOR, your success may vary.

On a side issue, do you know how to make or receive a call on your handset without using the hands-free (for privacy)? Or, for that matter, can you switch from hands-free to the handset mid conversation? I read that you could press and hold the telephone button on COMAND to get it to turn off the connection. But when I try to do that with the LG, it tries to disconnect but ends up still connected. The only way I was able to kill the hands-free was to disconnect the puck or unpair the phone. Obviously neither of these ways is very quick or elegant.

Enjoy your Voyager, it looks fabulous! I almost bought that but didn't want to pay for Verizon's expensive services per month in order to use all the phone's many gadgets. Did you get an unlimited package?

I didnt buy the interface yet because they told me many new phones wont work. I have a Razr V3 now and I will be upgrading in January but I didnt want to invest in the interface if it was not going to work

I think if the phone has bluetooth it should work in any car, any make etc. This gimmick of limiting it to a few phones frustrates me.

I was told the problem lies with new phones software, well why dont they all just use the same platform to make the consumers life easier.

Almost any phone will pair up. What doesn't work for many phones I've tried is the contact list download. Most "smart phones" won't give the download due to just too many contacts. My Outlook/Blackberry contact list is 600+ entries and COMAND won't handle it.

Voyager works great with my bluetooth. I was driving around all day and placed and recieved many calls today. The sound quality was amazing compared to my RAZR. My phonebook downloaded and I was able to place calls by just scrolling to the name and hitting send on my steering wheel.

So far, so good.

When you have too many contacts, apparently the COMAND just can't handle it and nothing in the list syncs. That happened with my Black Q which a few people reported would completely sync (but no one with more than 100 contacts), as well as my latest phone, a Blackberry Pearl. What I have not tried is to setup a "hot list" as defined in the Blackberry so my most important entries could be put into a much smaller list and hopefully sync'd to COMAND. I plan to try that over the holiday.

glad to hear that your voyager works, and my prada didnt?? or maybe is the problem being that its a foreign phone?.. maybe just my car comand huh.. well, next time i get my car back.. im going to try out my sony ericsson p1i(another foreign phone).. hopefully it works, or i should just open up a new line with another phone and just leave that in my car as my car number

I have an AT&T tilt and could not get the contacts to upload, then I found a cool program for wm5 and wm6 phones that did the job. The link is below they offer a 30 day trial version and you can purchase for 14.95, it works great with the MHI blue-tooth puck. You can limit the contacts so far I have 150 with out a problem. I tried Benz-O-Rama's way first but the tilt bluetooth options would not work for me, the program does.

AAAAARRGHH! Wish I had found this earlier, I may have kept the Black Q instead of switching to the Blackberry.

I just bought an '04 s500 and on the dealer's computer it says "phone removed". I don't know if I have the wiring or whatever is needed. I can place an emergency road call by pushing the "wrench" button or the SOS button. What do I need to install a phone? There is no cradle inside the phone compartment. Do I need to get the dealer to help? Thanks for your help.By the way I have an I Phone and a Sony Ericson p990i. Does anyone have experience with these?
