Has anyone driven their E w/snow tires?

I was just curious if anyone drove their E55/63's in the snow with snow tires or all seasons and how that experience went?

I was curious to make this post as well with winter approaching. I do know the ASR on our AMG well on my E63 the threshold is far greater than on a 350 or 550, wet leaves and rain the car looses it easily. Back in 04 My brother had an E500 and we put Blizzaks on the 17" OEM rims and we got hammered in snow and the Benz was unreal, I could not get stuck between the tires and traction/esp the car was so confident. I had a work SUV at the time an FX35 and it had the larger wheels and it was terrible in the snow, slid everywhere.

SO I guess We have to find out, not sure if the Tire Rack makes Blizzaks for the 18" rims. The ones we had on the E500 in 04 were very soft with deep threads they were the best for ice and deep snow, I must look into whats comparable today.

I had Blizzak snow tires(18") on my OEM wheels last season on my E55 and it worked great. I set the the transmission and suspension in "C" mode and I would have to try hard to spin the wheels. The ESP system work wonders. And in our area we get REAL snow and not the light dusting crap. Some of you may not believe me, my E55 with snow tires can circles around my old Lexus GX470 SUV all day long.

John thanks for the clarifications can you post which Blizzak you have?

I agree my brothers old E500 with the Blizzaks was just amazing.

How does the car handle with the Blizzaks? The ones I have drieven on were terrible the shoulder blocks on the threads were so soft and pliable but were great in the snow.

I never tried the 18 or 19 larger snow tires for performance cars where they say the handling is decent and snow traction is very good.

I just ordered a set of 18" Dunlop Aspics with rims from tire rack !
I hope to get them this week because we are supposed to get 6" of snow tonite!
I have an E430 4matic with 17" pirelli snows and it is great in the snow!
I hope that the E55 will be able to even come close to the traction I get from the E430.
I'm currently looking for a MDX or a Lexus R330 just as a backup!

I remember being on a trip to Johannesburg SA ad I asked the taxi driver about snow. He said it hasn't snowed in 20 years there!
It snowed the next day!

I run Dunlop WinterSport M3 in the winter - 245s all around.

Drives better than my RR with all-seasons.

I have the LM-25 Blizzak, 245/40/18 in front and 265/35/18 in rear. Ideally I should have thinner tires but it worked out well with the OEM configuration. Compare to the OEM continental, the Blizzak is slightly more noisier and softer ride, hence slightly more body roll during corning. But the "C" suspension setting may have contribute that also. With the Blizzak, my E55 can be driven all year round without worrys.

I just bought this exact set up and will be running these on the stock wheels as well. Tirerack sold this combo for like $970 delivered and I liked the fact that they were staggered and fit the stock wheels perfectly. Also these seem to be one of the very few "snow" ties that have a decent speed rating.

I am glad to see the positive reviews of snows and our E's...gives me a little more confidence. Thanks.

I had dunlop sport M3's on my E500 up in NH and it was a trooper in snow up to the undercarriage. Just ordered Dunlop 3Ds for my E63 and anticipate no worries... I mentioned in an earlier post a buddy of mine drives an S65 with snowies and has absolutely no problem.

I just received my order of the 245 M3s mounted on MSWs from The Tire Rack, still sitting in my garage unopened. I am philosophically opposed to putting the snows on before December 1st.

I have 245's all round with spiked tires, No problem at all to cope with the low friction on ice and snow. It's a mather of not flooring it, that's all.

If you disengage ESP you have to very carefull. Worst problem is to get the spikes to last a hole winter, never managed to do that yet.

LOL.

In Chicagoland we don't have that luxury.
