M/S/C modes
On the 05 E55 what is the difference between Manual and Sports mode as far as ride quality? I know you can manually adjust the suspension but is there a big difference when in M or S? Today I was on the highway and felt like gunning the car for a second and I was in C mode and when I gunned it the car still felt fast. How do you guys do it meaning when gunning it do you put it on M or S? And is it ok to switch from M/S/C while driveing?

Most of the time I drive in S mode. When I want to floor it, I click on the "-" on the stearing wheel a couple of times to find the lowest gear, and then BAM. The car upshifts by itself. Sometimes though if I'm lazy I just floor it. I find that the car downshifts really well by itself anywhere under 65 mph.

FWIW, it is in the manual.
Basic difference is trasmission shifts. Supposedly C mode has the slowest shifting to provide comfort. S mode is 30% faster shifting than C mode. Manual is 50% faster than C mode, but relies on the driver to shift which is usually slower than the computer can automatically do it for you in S mode.

I didn't think there was any difference in how quick the shifts are among the modes. C mode starts out in 2nd gear, otherwise I think it is the same as S. M mode makes you shift with the paddles and stays in whatever gear you are in when you let off the throttle, however if you don't shift with the paddles it will shift for you at redline. Also if you are driving and want to shift down to the lowest allowable gear, you just push and hold down the left paddle.

I believe the Sport I and II settings are suspension oriented and not transmission shift oriented.

+1. The c / s modes are simply starting in 1st vs 2nd AND some tuning differences. For example, S will hold a gear longer when spirited driving than will C. M is manual, as others have said. One thing, it also downshifts at about 1000RPM. There is NO difference in shift speeds between manual and sport or comfort. That can be changed by TCU upgrade.
