Cool Beans
Hey Jim: Take pics of those flames , it would be a real gas at night. Cool Beans.
Steve Bez: If you notiec the top of the piston @ the intake area . Is very clean. It is washed off by the cool intake air fuel mixture. Then look at the center of the piston , It's a nice bronze color , shows a clean burn, centered on the piston , creates a center down force. Help keep the piston located in the bore, and the Rings square to the bore (promotes) go ring life & Seal.
The pitting you noticed is not Pitting , but is unburned hydrocarbon deposits. The exhaust is the hot spot , but the edges of the piston is close to the cooled cylinder bore and heat transfer area of the ring land ,to the ring ,to the bore. Being this is cooler , some deposits naturely form here. Hope this helps alittle ___PTE___

Should have um done today. Then we'll fire it up and see how she feels.
As most of you advanced modders (like you Jody!) know, the butt dyno stopped working a long time ago so unless it's dramatic, most likely won't really be able to tell much until we get her to the dyno.
Hoping to beat the snow. Supposedly it will kick in tonight so if I can hammer it home today, I have a chance.
Keep your fingers crossed guys.
Jim

Hey P,
Without giving up too many details, your engine should officially be the stuff when she pops up on the dyno. When do we get to see the monster in action?? Or at least the spec sheet.
All the stuff I am doing will just bring me in a close 2nd to you and Rflow. You got her put together yet?

Hey Ken!!!! Welcome, welcome, welcome!!!
Glad to see you here and I am happy to hear you like the heads & cams.. We try our best to keep everything at the highest possible standards.
I am looking forward to the end results..
BTW, you can email me the pics and I can host them for you if you like.. I wouldnt mind high res copies for my build book anyways..
P.S-> Maybe you should put some electronically controlled dump pipes just aft of the headers and then for sure you'll see some flames out of the exhaust!!!

Hey everyone, This is Ken, Jim's exclusive grease monkey! (I feel like a celebrity!) It's been over a year since I've browsed MBWorld, and I gotta say I'm impressed. This has got to be one of the most supportive sites I've ever seen. The knowledge base is great, you all have a fabulous resource here.
I'm just getting home, thought I would post some progress pics for Jim.
If I had more time I would host them for some better resolution, I'll let Mr Jim do that if he wants.
I gotta say, VRP is doing some great things, this kind of quality is rare these days, the machine work on the heads is first rate, and the cams.....OH MY GOD the cams. These things have so much duration there is going to be flames coming out of the exhaust!!! Its gonna be epic when this thing is done! Jim your my hero, I'm goin' in early tomarrow to finish her up! Goodnight all!

Everything working out great and we'll just pick up on Monday.
Thanks again to Victor and VRP, Ken Robinson and all my fellow AMG brothers for the enouragement on this project.

Well this is it. He is finishing up the car as I type and will go pick it up in a few hours. Wish me luck.
Gonna try to get some vid of the lumpy idle before we adjust it. If you can't notice it too much, I'll just skip it.
But should have some info for you guys later tonight.
Until we get hard evidence that she is not running lean (possibility with more air flow), I probably am not gonna drive her too hard just to be safe.....but should be able to get on it a few times and see what she feels like.

12/10/07 update PM
Project will be on hold for bout a week.
Car is done but we are missing ONE LAST part and believe customs may have removed it. (bout our best guess at this point) V saw it go into the box and my guys cannot find it anywhere.
I think Victor and I are gonna need a vacation after this.
Sorry for all the popcorn everyone has eaten over this. Will update when part arrives from Germany later in the week.
Such is life in wild world of modding.
