Drives Slowly
Sounds great Jim!!!

Forgive me if you already stated this (too lazy to reread the thread) but what ECU program are you running now? Still K2 or did Victor give you a VRP custom tune?

Thanks you guys!

Rock, running what Cory at Klee calls, "Their latest and greatest".

Thinking of custom tuning next since I got so much stuff going on.

For now, Klee is still rocking though.

Ken probably has the idle raised to 80 rpm since that's the max on SDS.

Hey I gotta tell you guys, I don't know if it is the cams, or the heads but this engine really came alive. Ive driven hundreds of 55k powered vehicles, and dozens of modified ones. Jims was always my favorite, but now it's coveted.

It feels unreal, makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck, and the sound is like audible heroine.

I am so happy to have been a part of this, can't wait to see dyno numbers.

This car is truly epic!

Hey Adam, we didn't touch the idle settings in SDS, we left it stock. We'll adjust it if needed, but decided the lope was sexy!

The install is a normal head swap. Normally a head R+R (remove and replace) would take about 10 hours, this one took me about 16. I was meticulous in measuring head bolt length, replacing camshaft followers, and tourquing every bolt. you do need special tools for timing the engine, you also need a low Nm torque wrench for pre stretch torque on the cam tower bolts. other than that, just nuts and bolts!

Almost forgot to add, the cam tower bolts are one time use stretch bolts. Don't forget to replace them.

I think if you get the guys to check out the ECU you may still have some power on the table left.... just be carefull as you might be running a little lean now ... she must be flowing much more air than before.

Who needs turbo's right?

Jim can you give us a full list of all your mods?

This one was like, "Holy S*^t"

Been a friggin blast. I think the best news of all is I can finally do at 4300ft what most of you modded guys at lower elevations do all the time.

Example breaking the tires loose from a roll. Before, just wasn't able to do it.

Watch how the car surprises me

Sorry I did not dyno cams separately. V gave me his blessing to install both in one shot. We DEFINITELY will see an increase but how much I am just not sure. Car does lope quite a bit on idle and RFLOW is 100% correct as usual. You gotta increase the idle or she will feel like a WILD WOMAN at redlights. I swear to you guys. Car is at a redlight, it's rockin slightly, loping and just sounding evil and I look over at this young guy that is like .

Man it was so great to have the butt dyno working again. I laugh because in one my earlier posts I lamented that the butt dyno stopped working long ago.

Last thing. I really do hate flyby vids as I feel they all kinda look the same. I honestly can't tell the difference between a stock flyby and this one below, but will post anyway.

Only one you can tell on is the burnout.

Here is fellow AMG brotha stock burnout

Here's mine with NO brake start, notice she is still wiggling at the end (just had roasted the Toyos for fun before too so they were hot and sticky)

On the flyby, I started much less than a 1/4 mile away and by the time I got by Ken, was at about 100-110mph. Should trap well if conditions are good.

Flyby Vid

Overall, I would give heads and cams from VRP a 10 outta 10, and that's not just cause I love that big Canadian lug.

Won't be able to make the trek to Sacto for awhile with Holidays coming up etc, but CAN'T FRIGGIN WAIT TO SEE YOU GUYS AND LET HER RIP!!

Jim

ps....gotta run out with the wife this pm for a doctor consult with the wife on....ummm wellll, uhhh, let's just say this was my Christmas present, her's will be a slightly different mod.

I am so happy for you Congrads !!! But I am very curious if the POWER increase that you feel with you butt comes from CAMs only or from CAMS and HEADS...Did you measure your BOOST and CHECKED your AFRS...

Regarding ECU: it very intresting thing that with more airflow you should be runihng lean but our car are so smart that when ECU sees more flow it starts to dump more fuel...This what exactly happand when I installed VRP CF AB and tubes...my AFRs dropped from 12.2 to 11.7 and I could feel it immediately that the car did pull the same...but onn clock it showed same accelration from 60-125 about 8sec with lower AFRs then we tuned ECU and put back AFR to 12.2 I couldnt hook up anymore rolling start till 45-50 mph...

I cant wait to see those DYNO results...and check you boost you should be runing 0.98 (14.23-14.3) with 178 pulleys...with stock HEADS !!!

Someone help...I cant see those videos...Can someone put them is Media Player or Quick time...

Curious how the torque curve has changed - peak should have moved up the curve right - looks like wheel broke loose when you got to ~4000rpm which was our previous peak of the plateau...

I reckon you are lower in boost now, running cooler IAT's as a result (maybe marginally) but flowing more air more efficiently and making more power as a result... that cold weather is also going to make the beast perfrom like real devil... IAT's should be low so if you are lean you should be relatively safe, but I would still tread carefully until you can dyno.

I am also curious what gives more bang ... the cams or the porting - or does it have to be the combo?

What you say guru's?

Yes, JACKPRO, GREAT those videos

.. I continued for long with looping on second and last vids

very good that it hasn't an open exhaust .. perhaps only Header?

in last vid when you are in 2nd gear, perhaps because the road isn't so plain, seems on the point of taking off.. and at finish when you shift to third I hear a shwiiii .. from compressor?

RUSS: open it with VLC player (video Lan, free)

Man, that lumpy idle sounds great. It put a huge smile on my face to hear that comming form a benz.

These cams drop in any M113?? or only the E55K?

Very nice work!!

Just wanted to comment on the "cams vs heads and which one makes the power"...

We know the cams make good power on their own as I've stated a few times..

These cams we had made have alot more lift than stock or SLR or Kleemann or Evotech.. They also have alot more duration and the LSA has been changed.

The exhaust ports on our heads flow very poorly so with a set of properly ported heads the cams will just compliment them and together they work alot better. How much better is what we are waiting to determine. You can have an aggressive cam profile, but if the heads dont flow the air, they arent going to do as much as they are capable of.

I am expecting to see a slight boost drop (1 - 1.5psi) but as long as it makes the power all that means is a cooler running, more consistent engine. You know what that means... it means it leaves the door open to increase boost some more...

What I really want to see is someone with a nitrous setup that managed to put 650rwhp++ down to the ground with stock heads and stock cams bolt on the heads and do another dyno.. I am really curious to see how much more power the nitrous will register on the dyno with better flowing heads. Hey Rflow.... nudge, nudge, wink, wink...

I will let you know soon! I have the exact same cams as jackpro and they are installed but I am not as brave as jackpro I must raise the idle and get dyno before I drive it like a mad man. I am waiting for Oliver to come back to EuroElites to dyno tune it next month.
