Not that I recommend it, but 255/35 in the front and 285/35 in the rear is MAX on the stockers.

Nah, it is just a bit bubbly. Makes the ride overly cushiony. I'd stick to 275/35s for the rear. You can try the 255s in the front, if you like. Overall, you will have a slightly taller car. If you lower it, fine, but if not you may not like the handling as much.

I'll respectfully disagree - it's not even a good "not recommended" suggestion. I've posted this before. The stock wheels are 8" and 9" wide. 255/35 and 285/35 tires are not an approved fitment on such narrow rims. Will they mount up? Yes, but installing wide tires on narrow rims overloads the sidewalls because they are pinched in too far. Handling and safety suffer. For the stock rims, 245/40 and 275/35 are designed for the rim widths and are the max you should go. To use the wider tires, you need to move up to 8.5" and 9.5" rim widths. I don't make this stuff up; just go to the tire manufacturer's website and look for the approved rim widths for the tires you're interested in in the specifications section. They have the rim width specs for a reason.

I don't disagree with the specifications. I was simply telling him how wide of tires people here have actually put on and run. Mine are 9 inch fronts and 10 inch rears, so I understand the game .

The CLS is different. You have a 9.5 inch rear and I think 8.5 front. You can bump the 255 to 265 and the 285 to 295, but I'd drop a ratio. the tires may be smaller than OEM (slightly), but a nice drop and the thing will handle like it is on rails.

I have 275/40/18 rears

a bit chuncky.. but I seem to be able to squat the car better during launch...

also my speedometer is a bit off..since I have a bit more rpms through during cruising speed.

275/35/18 is perfect...

255/40/18 would be a bit chuncky.. but will work.
