So according to the instructions on the OBDII interface screen, negative adjustments switch the fan on later?

What's the point? Isn't more cooling better? Doesn't going -10 keep the engine bay hotter longer?

Lemme do a search and read up...

Poked around, couldn't find a way to make myself understand how retarding auxiliary cooling fan function helps performance...

Did the OP mean "+10" instead of "-10", to advance the fan function? I can see how that would help...

I created the term "-10C fan mod"... I called it -10C fan mod because you REDUCE the temperature of the onset of the fan (turn it on EARLIER)... In STAR DAS, the number is shown as POSITIVE..

In stock form, the ECU turns on the fan at 90C (I believe).. With this mod, the fan will come on 10C sooner (80C)..

Our fans are 2 speed.. after you do this mod, you will notice the car uses the high speed mode alot more frequently.. sounds like a jet turbine especially when you are parked in your garage.. LOL.

I have a STAR DAS Developer Edition setup.. If you want to drive up to Toronto, I'll do it for you.. LOL..

The important point - if you get a tech to make changes to the fan temps, make sure he sets it to +10, not -10.

Increasing the temperature of when the fan comes on, possible reason:
1. Increase life of fan, since fan comes on less
2. Increase temperature of your venting system
3. Reduce the time your fan is on to reduce sounds
4. Decrease the time you need to warm up if you are living in a very cold environment

For performance:
Decrease the time you need to warm up your car if all you do is race it then you don't have to wait too long for it to warm up or wait for the programming to go into close loop mode (if our E55 has this). It's not a good idea to race the car when it is dead cold just as it is not a good idea to race it when it is too hot.

etc
