Disconnecting the battery?

Hello! I had to get rid of a CEL that was caused by a loose gas cap, so I disconnected the battery, only the ground wire for about 10 sec and put it back on.

The CEL went away, so that problem was solved, but I was wondering if I have to reset anything now since the battery was disconnected. Is there anything specific I have to do? Also, does disconnecting the battery negatively affect the performance of car? Should I take it to a dealer now?

Thanks in advance!

It's in the manual. I don't remember because I just watched someone else do it when they replaced my battery. They had to recenter the steering and the sunroof and probably some other stuff. It wasn't anything hard. For the steering I think he just turned the wheel from lock to lock. I would guess if you did a search you might find the procedure on this forum. Good luck.

Nothing really too crazy.

Just like he said above. Move steering wheel lock to lock a few times to be safe. Think that has something to do with ESP resync.

Manually put power windows all the way down, then all the way up to resync them.

Then sunroof same and you should be all set.

Very very important in the future NOT to do that with your keyless go key on you or near the car. Can really mess it up.

Car will be fine. If you disconnect battery for 30 mins or more, she'll run like a demon again too. Try it sometime. Resets any settings that have been set to "granny".

Thanks everybody! So I guess there is no need to take it to the dealer? I was worried...

So that would work better then a sneaky ECU reset? Would that cause any intercooler, thermostat, or kompressor malfunctions? Thanks!

Sneaky ECU resets the tranny shift patterns (so we kinda think right now)

Battery reset actually erases all preset engine and tranny patterns.

I find my car runs like a monster after I do it.

However there have been reports of cars having some trouble after battery resets so I would not recommend it be a regular practice.

Sneaky ECU reset can be done daily with no problems though.
