E55 to SL65?

Been getting the itch for a change recently. Found this really clean SL65 for sale. A bit more mileage than I would like to see, but the car looks really clean. I asked if they take trades.

What do you guys think?

I think my biggest concern with this car is the fact that it is an Anniversary car that has been modified. Won't the Kleeman upgrades nullify the warranty to those areas of the car, ECU and Tranny? What about the stock wheels? Can you get those back? Most MB purists would probably insist on the original wheels...if you decide to resell. HRE's are nice but on an amost 200K car I would want stock...just for posterity reasons. How many drag runs has that car done before/after the Kleeman upgrades? High miles if run hard.

I don't know, man. With 700+ torque, I would be in jail soon.

Looks like a beauty. Are you sure you are ready for that drastic of change? I.e. less passengers, cargo, etc.? I.e. this is certainly a large change in terms of functionality, etc. But man, she is a beaut. Not sure I would be as concerned about the mileage. My sense is these quality of cars are like good boats: they stay in best condition when used regularly, and don't like to sit around. Kind of like thoroughbred horses. So don't sweat the mileage, IMO. Try to speak to the original owner and read between the lines.

Go for it. Life's light is quickly fading.

Lorenzo the question to me is"How could you not do it?"

For the price including all the mods, rims, that's a fantastic deal for such a beautiful and rear beast.

Then when the VRP mods come out,Look OUT!

I think it looks like a great car and frankly, 20K miles on an '05 isn't bad as it was probably an early '05 so figure 6500 miles per year. The car also has the original window sticker which is generally a sign that the previous owner was an enthusiast and might have cared for the car. I would call Kleemann and see what they could tell me about the history of the car as they probably know of it.

As to the wheels...they don't look bad but I would rather have the OEM SL65 wheels but that wouldn't stop me from buying the car if it is what you want and the price is agreeable.

E55 to SL65...I don't see why not. They are easy to drive and designed to be comfortable daily drivers.

Good luck!

I'm having mixed feeling about this: one part of me wants to tell you noooooooooooooooooo, your car is one in a million, a legend, and holds the record for the fastest stock E55 ever, so you should just keep it and mod it; but the other part is saying: you just can't ignore a "fully loaded" (all options), carbon-fiber interior, SL65 with all the Kleemann upgrades. It'll definately be a monster on the track. BTW, would they let you dyno the car before buying it?

Wow. That is an incredible car.

My only hesitation is in spending over $100k for a used car that is soon to be replaced (w/in a couple years I think) with a new body style. That SL body has been around for a while and you might see some ugly depreciation when the new body comes out.

You can buy some exotic stuff for $100-110k. Given that you have the ULTIMATE ride right now, I'd hang on to your E and buy an SL65 when the new one comes out (either the newer style OR get a much lower price on an '05 or '06?).

Just a thought. On the other hand, buy this and POST VIDEOS Wee-haa that'd be a rush! That's SERIOUS torque

This car will not last long. The warranty coverage is possible trouble. Possible for the seller to guarantee the warranty? Probably not, but at least take it to a dealer and see if MB will sign off on the coverage. That much depreciation is absolutely shocking. Miles are good.

How about a new ZR1?? Which would you rather walk out to in your garage?

Edit: Wait, hold on, the warranty is the issue. Depending on the in service date, the normal warranty will run out in possibly one year. Definitely negotiate for some type of after market warranty in connection with the purchase.

Update

Doesn't look like I am going to make a deal on this SL65. Seller wants a premium on wheels and mods.

I am looking at a CPO 05 CL600 at my local dealer. Listed for 69,900. I want to see what they will offer me for my car.

If anyone is interested in buying the quickest and fastest bone stock E55, send me a PM. Car is an 05 with 13,800 miles, garage kept, never hit, built-in stealth Escort SRX radar/laser detector and diffuser, has had 5 oil and filter changes and still looks brand new inside and out. I installed new 275/35 PS2's at the rear two months ago. Fronts are still in great shape. Oh, comes with a spare front wheel and tire.

Enzom...sorry to hear it didn't pan out. I'm headed your same route this summer, but I'll be keeping my Beast. Good luck with the CL600. I hope the SL65 market bites the big one this summer, especially with the new body style around the corner...better for me and more "pennies" going to VRP mods.

PS...Your beast is a true legend on this forum and anyone who gets it will be damn lucky !

What price are you looking to pay for a car with all those upgrades? 105k seemed very cheap. I am not sure if the sl's will drop that much if the new cars only get the new headlights and tails lights as pictures show. I wouldnt trade for that as 90% of the car is the same. With the cl it was a new car all around. I dont see 20k in mods though.

It wasn't really what he was offering to sell his car for - it was how much cash he wanted on top of my car as part of a trade. I understand that he invested lots of money into the car (wheels, mods, etc.). And if he wants a buyer at his price, he has the right to hold out.

SL 65 AMG and E63s AMG
I've considered getting out of my E55 several times and whenever I have driven the SL CL and S65s I was astounded at the heft of the vehicles. The E55 seems to be much more nimble.

Knowing you to be a motorhead I would think you would tire quickly of such a heavy car.

My favorite is the SLK55. I may trade for a Kleemannized S8. Much faster and quicker than anything else I have driven lately.

While in Paris I visited the MB dealership on the Chmps and they assured me that a E63 twin turbo will be coming "soon". Don't know if it was hype but I would be expecting it when the W212 comes out. We will see.

He can't expect to get all his money back from the mods. He'd be lucky to just get 1/3 from mods. If you wait a little more, the SL65 will drop even less as the new body style emerges just like what happened with the CL.

I have known and learned the hard way that mods (interior/stereo/engine) on modern cars should not be treated like an investment. 1st a car is depreciating asset (unless your a Ferrari or a classic) and 2nd mods should be taken as enjoyment for the current owner.

As a matter of fact, mods more than likely would lower the price of a car or at the very most not impact the car's price at all...it should be treated like any other car that has similar miles and interior/exterior condition.

Just my .02.
