No Longer A Track Virgin...

My first run was EMBARRASSING! I kept thinking to feather the throttle, but I was so anxious I ended up smashing the throttle and I got squirly of the line and had to lift off. Second problem was I was focusing on the end of the track instead of what was directly in front of me...the effect of the speed piling on was disorienting at first so I ended up lifting off the throttle.

60' 2.123 / 1/4 - 14.615 @ 95.55 (no burnout)

My second run was a lot better...I eased up on the throttle and focused just in front of me and mashed the throttle through the trap.

60' 1.991 / 1/4 - 12.046 @ 116.98 (no burnout)

My third and final run was a bit better but for some reason I lifted off the throttle at the very end which reflects on my trap speed...

60' 1.876 / 1/4 - 12.038 @ 114.67 (short burnout)

I think with more practice I am confident I'll eventually get under 12. Overall, I had a great time. I met a nice group of guys who helped me out a lot with staging and just the logistics of the track. The car held up great and it felt strong throughout the night.

I'll be headed back next week before I drop off my car to have the VRP cams and heads worked on by VRP's shop. I can't wait...

Ps...
Does anyone know how to extrapolate backwards from the 1/4 and trap speed the horsepower/torque to the wheels?

Where was this time and date?

Great runs for your first time , sounds like a great time was had. How do you feel? Usually this devirginizing causes angst to get back out , man I still remember my first time, I just kept wanting to practice and keep getting better and better .WOOOOOHOOOO

I dont have a torque calc but I do have an HP calc and G forces.

I just need the appx weight of your car then we can do a hp calc from your trap speed

your best 60 ft produced 1.07 G and your car was up to 44 mph by 60ft
I did a 4300 lb car with 18% loss and the HP was 450-465 to the wheels 550-560 at the crank

You need to know the weight of the car.
This will give you crank hp/tq and I've seen people around here quote a 17 to 20% drivetrain loss.

Thanks...the rookie was scared ****less on that first run and it showed. I can't wait to head back next week. The apprehension of what to do, where to go, and just going at speed will be gone. I just need practice, practice, practice to get my 60' down and to get comfortable going all out throughout the whole run.

Based on the curb weight I found on the web of 4200 lbs, plus my weight (180lbs), additional weight of sub/enclosure/amps (100lbs), less Evosport rotor savings (34lbs)...I'm approximating based on the Hp calculator to have 532hp at the flywheel.

Does that sound right?

Sure it does. MB rates it at the crank anyway so you're right in the ballpark.

No, that is high. I hate all the attempts at calculating flywheel HP / TQ. Why? What matters is what you put down anyways. You can play with numbers enough to make them look great with some simple calculations.

I haven't paid enough attention to your mods, but stock E55s dyno between 410 and 420ish HP at the wheels. We also know that the E55 pushes about 505 HP at the crank (stock). You can do the math.

Try this

HP = Weight/(ET/5.825) cubed

or

HP = (mph/234) cubed X Weight

Example 1
4,200 lbs and 12.00 ET
HP = 4,200/ (12/5.825) (12/5.825) (12/5.825) = 480 HP

Example 2
114 MPH
HP = (116/234) (114/234) (116/234) X 4200 = 485 HP

Thanks guys...
for all your support and kind words. I must recommend to any person out there that has a fast car like ours to take it to the track. It is as safe as any racing environment can be and it keeps the racing to where it should be.

Its actually a place where we can really push our cars without fear of cops or killing anyone else. It cost me $22 to have some real fun. My only regret is not going sooner when the car was stock to see the difference in performance between stock and now.

At least I will have a chance to see the changes in performance between now and the addition of the VRP cams, VRP modified heads, and VRP I/C upgrade.

Just dont line up with the crazy muscle cars or high hp imports because they do tend to get squirrely sometimes. I hate it when they line me up with the ones that do wheel stands and are all over the place (rare occurence).

Fortunately on there test tune night those really high hp guys and gals run first and then the bikes. The stock cars with none, some, or a lot of mods go next.
