Drag Nittos On E55

Thinking about running at set of 275/35/18 drag nitto on the rear of my e55 and was wondering if anyone on here has tried or is using this tire? Was not planning on switching out with different tire for the street staying with the nitto on all the time. I don't use the car for every day use. I used this same tire on my lightning truck with great results. Picked up 2 tenths over the goodyear F1's.

I have them on my car now...I like them but I still think I'd go with the BFGoodrich DR's. Also you can go 285/30/18 on the rears...that is what I'm running on the Nittos.

Good luck.

I know the BFG's are a little more stickier but don't want to be picking up every piece of road dabree. No problems with the 285's rubbing? or fitting the stock wheels? Do you still have traction problems with the nittos is that why you want the BFG's? Thanks for the input.

No problems rubbing at all and I even have my car lowered with a Kleeman module. The only mistake I made in the previous thread are the Nitto's are actually 285/35/18 not 285/30/18.

You are right about the BFG's picking up everything on the road when used for daily driving. It just SEEMS the BFG's have a stickier compound than the Nitto's.
I can't really give you a definitive answer between which is stickier on the track yet...I'll go through these Nitto's and then get a rear set of BFG's to see what if any effect they have on the track.

I just put 285's on mine. No problems rubbing at all. The Nittos are much stickier than the Contis, but I still can light them up if I just mash the throttle ESP off. I haven't tried them at the track yet, but they can't be worse than the stockers.

I'm interested to see how long they last....

I ran Nittos on the rear of my E55 and felt they were awesome for daily driving in warm weather (and even rain they were okay). I have also had the BFG drag radials and they are not going to last as long as the Nittos, plus they did pick every piece of road debris off of the road! I think it goes like this:

-Stock Conti's: ok daily driving, not so good for drag racing
-PS2's: great daily driving, better for drag racing
-Nitto DR's: good daily driving, even better than PS2's for drag racing
-BFG DR's: not good daily driving, best for drag racing

I have no experience with the Micky Thompson DR's but have heard from my Vette buddies that they are even stickier than the BFG DR's.

Hope this helps.
PS: I think that PS2's, Nitto Invos, or Nitto DR's are perfect for daily driving in non snowy areas of the US.

The smallest 18" radial Mickey Thompson makes is a P305/35R18. Do you all think it would fit and clear on a stock 18" wheel on a car thats not lowered? I know this tire would be unbelievable for the track but dont know for sure if or how bad the rubbing issues would be. Maybe someone here could chime in and let us know if they have tries it and what the results are!!! BTW, I have had great success out of NITTO 18" D.R. on Corvettes and Vipers. I have cut consistant 1.65-1.70 60's on a C5 vette and been in the low 1.50's to 1.60's in a SRT Viper this past year

MT makes a 245/40/18 that will fit on the stock wheels.

yup I see that!!! I went out and measured my stock cont's and they were right at 25" in height. I think that tire would be pretty good for 60ft. times but street wear would totally suck Guess it depends ultimately what you are wanting to use it for. I would like to find 2 rear stock 18" amg wheels just to run at the track or when I knew I would be messin around on the street b/c I know whatever it is under track conditions is not gonna last too long with me

Where do you live? An R compound tire should not be routinely driven in climates of less than 40 degrees. The compound can crack.

I live in Chicago but don't drive the car 7 months out of the year. It sucks but if you want to keep the car mint that's what you have to do out here. I will let you guy's know the ET'S and 60ft times when I go to the track in stock form and modded form. I have michelin pilot sport tires on the car now with no mods. Will run it first like it sits, then put the nitto's on it and run it again the same day and let you know the results. Then I will put on the VRP pully, code 3 bigger intercooler,k&n filters, jhonson pump, reprogramed ecu, and run it again and let you know the results. I know I should do each one and see the difference, but can't wait that long sorry.

You need to "break-in" the Nittos before you can expect decent results. Depending on who you listen to, it takes between 250-500 miles to burn some lubricating chemical off the tread surface that is used in the manufacturing process. So if the Nitto's are brand spanking new when you test them, it won't really give you a fair comparison.

Enzom...can you just do a couple of burnouts to run through the lubricants. I bought my DR's and had them sit in my garage until I used them last week at the drag strip and plan to only use them at the drag. I change into my 19" setup after I get back from the track.

PS...I'm looking into getting a 16" rear setup with Mickey Thompson drag radials...will the break-in process be the same?

I am not sure. I think you actually need to wear off some of the tread to get to the tread's true chemical composition. But I don't profess to be a tire expert. I did notice that my PS2's felt very slick when new. So I drove with the ESP off to light them up when I could and drove it on days when I normally wouldn't just to put some mileage on the tires.

For track I have 17 275/40...

Anyone knows if any tyre maufactures going to make some DR or semi-slick for 19 wheels 275-285/30 ??? I would love to have something like Toyo 888 on my rear for street racing...
