Talking That's it, I've had it....

I encountered a moddified WRX STI this morning. NO, I did not race it or anything, but I was behind it and it sounded pretty mean, I actually though it sounded meaner than the almighty E55. SO I called the shop that did my midsection and X-Pipe for me and on Wednesday I will be removing my MUFFLERS.... YES. I want my car to be heard, I WILL not let some 4 banger sound meaner than me. Plus they said that they will always be able to put it back together when I decide to get rid of the car. SOON I WILL BE HEARD!!

You didn't think the STI sounded a little ricey?

Not really, ricey is different, this was a low rumble coming form a 4 cylinder engine.

See, I disagree that the E55 is lacking in acoustic accompishment.

I think it it close to PERFECT for a high-performance daily driver. Luxury-car silent until you step into it. Then it produces a beautiful rumble with a touch of high-pitched whine thrown in. Low bass, you know it means business, but in a low key, mega-torque, professional kind of way. And that touch of blower scream is the icing on the cake.

While there are those among us who crave more decibels, to me this misses the point, accomplishment, and personaity that our cars embody. I think the volume and rumble matches the character of the car perfectly: The sleeper 4-door with endless torque, frightening power along with supreme comfort, silence, smooth ride and perfect visibility.

I've had pulley and ECM done so maybe she is louder than stock, with the occasionally rumble and pop going down hill and off throttle. Love the all-business rumble and whine from 3k rpm up, muted but all class and potency. Or keep the RPM low and treat yourself to near complete silence.

I wouldn't change a thing. The perfect Jeckyl and Hyde exhaust, silence with the low-pitched sound of a massaged V8 topped by the twin-screw blower a toe-tap away.

I was deep in enjoyment over this very issue this weekend on a cold San Francisco night drive across the Bay Bridge, through North Beach and back to Berkeley. Just a perfect match with the total package; the same way a finely tuned high RPM Italian V12 emits the Stradavrius wail at 7k rpm, only tuned for our giant killer V8S, muted and consistent with the mission statement of the car in the same way a tightly strung mid-engine V12 screams as the revs climb. The muted burble seems to match the huge torque in a perfect meeting of audio and adios. To have the car making tons of noise would end up making it feel LESS powerful, I suspect. As it is the twist comes only with the subtle but effective tone I've grown to appreciate as among my favorite aspects of the E.

Wouldn't change a thing. Though I do admit that I'll occasionally roll down all the windows through tunnels and let her rip

Love that E

Haha, thanks Frank...come to Sunny and CylinderHead's launch party and you're bound to come back with some memorable pictures and possible memorable stories

And yep, WRX's have the most musclecar tone of any 4 banger. I honestly think they sound great.

That sounds pretty good

I think if you took the mufflers off it will be too loud. Like a friggin tank loud! But let us know how it goes...

BTW guys, not all STI's and Evo's are riced out. With just a little money invested they would give the quickest E55s a run for their money. Dont sleep on them...

you have to have someone drive your car and you follow behind it. these cars seem to be so well put together that no matter what you do you can barely hear them inside. i did the cutouts on mine and they sound great but if i really want to hear them i need to open a window.

My boy has an E55 with some work in it and he has the cats and resonator removed and I think it sounds amazing. I've also heard a few E55's with a free flowing exhaust and Eisenmann mufflers (Jody and Joon) and those things are bad to the bone.

Straight pipes may be too deep. It makes the whole car vibrate (trust me I know). I still loved it though but its impractical. I'd go for the cutouts bro. Best of both worlds
