E63 AMG Shifting Question Answered (by AMG)
"As another member have expressed already, I too have experienced difficulties shifting from 1st to 2nd in manual mode without hitting the rev limiter. It seems that the red light (for the up-shift) comes on way too early before the rpm red-lines?
In S mode, when I floor the gas pedal, the car will shift as follows:
From 1st to 2nd @ 6200 rpm
From 2nd to 3rd @ 7100 rpm
From 3rd to 4th @ 7100 rpm
From 4th to 5th @ 7100 rpm
So as you can see, every gear redlines properly except for 1st gear which never redlines. I've taken the car to 5 different dealerships and they all say that nothing is wrong. I've also tried 4 other 63 vehicles and they all behave the same way.
Is there a reason the car does not redline in 1st gear?"
The response to this question from Mercedes-AMG is as follows:
Many factors influence the exact shift point of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC transmission.
Due to the dynamic nature of the shift between 1st and 2nd gear, this shift is initiated slightly earlier than the later shifts and results in optimum performance of the drivetrain.
The exact shift initiation point may Vary slightly via the tachometer but it is being managed for optimum performance at all times.
Sometimes, my car will shift at 7000 rpm from 1st to 2nd gear, and it does feel that the car becomes faster and stronger when doing so, but now they're saying maybe not
