Best All Season Tires

Thursday it snowed heavily in Virginia. The roads became very slippery from slush and ice. I made it home okay but my DSC was on most of the time and I had to use M1 a lot to climb very small inclines because my Conti's constantly lost traction. Needless to say I was very concerned that my car would end up in a ditch or worse, in a wreck.

I want to switch to high performance (ZR) all season tires that will give me better rain and snow traction as well as dry high speed performance with less noise. I know I'm asking for a lot but I've read there are new compounds and tread designs that may meet my requirements.

First, if you've put all season tires on your car did they work, and second what brand were they and would you recommend them?

Thanks for you help and advice.

I realize this is not the response you asked for but I would recommend you just bite the bullet and get a set of four good winter tires and rims from Tire Rack. This is what I have had on my Porsche and now the E55 and it is really the only way to go. Change them out in December and March and know you have the best and safest situation. Cost will be about $1400 from Tire Rack for Blizarks and fairly nice rims. In my opinion there is no real good compromise with "all season" tires for real performance cars like ours. My 2 cents. Please note I live in Herndon VA and have for the past many years.

Yep, this is what I do in the DC area. And I'm driving an E-Class in the 500 flavor, not AMG. Couldn't imagine all that torque on summer tires in the snow.

I have summer tires on my aftermarket wheels and I put all-season's on my stock wheels for the winter. If nothing else, this is an excuse to buy a nice set of summer wheels.

Yes, forget all-season tires, they won't cut it for either extremes. I like the Blizzak LM-25 for a snow, they are around $956 delivered from the Tire Rack in the stock size. I good set of performance tires ranges from $800-1200.

Keep in mind that you are driving a $90,000 car so this might look expensive for tires but really isn't. I had $1,200 worth of performance tires on my $40K Evo!
