Is car too fast for wife to drive?

I am selling my wifes BMW touring and I may be forced into driving my car until new one arrives. The E55 has a sprint booster and ecu / pulley upgrade. The car is quick and my son 15 mths old will also be in the back. I am concerned the car will be too quick. What are your thoughts? Of course their safety is my main concern. If I removed the SB only would this help, or am I just kidding myself? Do any of you wife's girl friends drive you car? I think my wife is looking for a face life with all that tourque, maybe, who knows. Thanks for your help!

I've let my mother drive the car when she comes to visit and she has had no issues. She even commented that the car was so easy to drive that you would never know its true potential.

Don't show her how to disable ESP, and she should be fine.

It is a fast car, but if your wife don't step on it, it's not going anywhere.

Removing the SB would be a good idea. It may be too sensitive.

Exactly. Top of the range performance cars due to handling, brakes and power are the safest cars on the roads...provided the is a driver of maturity at the helm.

Agreed. Put an idiot behind the wheel and you've got trouble with 150 HP. If she's a decent driver, leave the car alone, put the trans in "C", and you'll have no issues.

If the SprintBooster is too sensitive for her, lemme know, I'd be interested in taking it off your hands!

That's the best part about these cars. They are literally as fast as you want them to be. Long as she isn't a lead foot, she'll be fine.

Most important thing I drill into my wifes head is corners. NO stomping on corners and off ramps etc. Basically no stomping at all unless it's straight as an arrow. She never does anyway but at least she knows that if she hammers it around a corner, it's gonna come around.

She sticks to that and she'll be fine.

edit....forgot about that sprintbooster. How sensitive is that thing??? Maybe pop that off for the time being.

wife drives my RT-3 with amg sprint booster. no issues. the first drive after headers/s-booster installed, she mentioned it felt just the same. she did not mash it, so point is it's fairly stock feeling if not driven hard. what a blessing for another potential upgrade. you should be fine. good luck.

I think it should be OK.... unless your wife's luck is like my wife's. Almost every time she drives my car, she always mentions some guys (yes, guys, not gals) teased her to race them.

First I didn't believe her.... but lo and behold.... I think 8 out of 10 times she drove the car and I was on pass. seat or I was driving behind her, there was always someone asking for a race - you name it... from mustang to camaro to M3/5/6 to porsche.

Not sure why it rarely happened to me. Do you (single) guys out there always tease a woman driving a fast car? Luckily, she rarely took the bait.... but when she did, she was always a little shaky afterwards.... LOL.

I say remove the SB, not hard and it does make a noticable difference. It's not how the wife dirves, is the infants comfort. Put it back in when u get car back.

Depends on your wife....I let mine drive the E55 and she buried the gas pedal leaving lots of rubber behind with the back end stepping out. Granted she races cars but I don't think I could afford the tire bill if she drove it regularly so be warned!

Anyway, it is an easy car to drive with the ESP on and the tranny set to C as pointed out above. As for your son, the car is VERY safe so I don't think I would worry much. If I had to pick a car to have a wreck in, an E or S would be on the top of the list.

She's a woman, not a little girl. Surely commonsense tells her to be careful.

My wife loves to drive my E55. I hate driving her E280!

I think it's a great wifey car! At least you know she can get out of the way if she needs to, and she'll have no problem getting up to speed on on ramps!

Zonik,

My wife gets the same treatment when she rolls the E. I think its a fine car for the wife - totally comfortable car, safe, and reliable.

Unfortunately my wife takes the bait and then comes home telling me how she raced a 911 turbo or muscle cars and walked them. It is funny. Luckily she is a really good driver and knows how to handle the beast!!!!!!

I never get any love from anybody else in a fast car. Maybe its because they think she is a woman and won't know A)what the car she is driving is capable of B)doesn't know how to drive because she is a woman(bad stigma). Either way I think its great!!!!!!

My wife hates driving my car, as she puts it, it scare's her. She loves it as a passenger, but hates driving it. Another thing, the few times she's driven my car she's told me that "fast & the furious people" (how she calls ricers) always try to race & hit on her, lol.

i had the same set up for about 6 months...

extra larger pulley and SB.. and she drove the car as a daily driver while I drove the C32.

C mode on the trasmission is a must.... depending on her driving style.

I'm able to feather in the throttle input.. but she can't. She mashes the pedal.

After 6 months, I sold the SB and with the Pulley and larger IC HE, the car responds 95% of the time. The others can be attributed to a slow 5sp transmission that likes to be in 5th gear.

now.. she drives the C32 and I have the 55 99% of the time.

I don't know, guys. You must have higher-skilled wives. My wife: I love her to death, but the day after she has a new car, it is banged up mercilessly and limps through 5 more years.

No way my wife ever has a car like the Beast.

My wife, fortunately, is quite careful w/ the car she drives. The only beef I have w/ her is that she's too lazy (yes, an accusation ) to park as far away as possible from other cars. She always says "safety concern" if she parks the car too far...

All of them!
The E55 is my wife's daily ride with the baby and 4 year old in the back seat. The ML55 is the utility vehicle that's she thinks isn't fast enough. She wants to get a E55 wagon to replace it.
Your wife and youngins should be just fine especially if you put it in comfort mode.

Guys thanks for your help with this. With the SB still on and in 'C' it was no problem. Once we got out of the car she says 'I cannot wait for my first race' I took the keys of her. I will buy her a Ssangyong Rodius for winding me up!

Mrs. mbenzman calls out "Honey, we need new rear tires again"

Any reason they don't last longer than 3 or 4K miles??
