Winter or All Season Tires
Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position
Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season
Or do I just pick up a second set of 18" wheels and get some Winter tires?
Any thoughts on All Seasons?
Thx.
are you putting these tires on stock (18?) amg split spoke wheels?
get a dedicated set of 18s w/ winter tires and be easy on the throttle and u'll be fine.
It is the perfect winter tire for Colorado to save your hide if you get caught out or want to drive the car after a storm or even a week after the storm the way the weather has been lately. It also offers top performance in the really nasty stuff if you care to drive in the winter.
For Colorado, skip the all-season approach as they are garbage when it gets slick and are poor summer performers.
Also, we have local tire and wheel shops that are good enough to mount/dismount onto your summer wheels without putting so much as a scuff on them so you don't have to buy another set of wheels.
PM me if you want the name of a shop.

I've always had the dedicated snows for all of our cars, and will have to get a set even for my wife's new X5 4.8i as the run flats that come standard are all season.
In addition to the consideration for the accumulated snow and ice, there is the factor regarding temperature that makes running snow tires in winter the more sensible choice. For the summer performance tires, any temp below 45F makes them pretty ineffective in terms of traction - though admittedly I'm sure all seasons would operate further down the thermometer. But I don't like the concept of compromises, especially when it involves a major safety factor like tires on the cars.
As there's been no winter here in metro NY yet, I can't speak to the effectiveness of the Dunlop Winter Sport M3s I'd mounted on MSW wheels for my E63 - but I've had the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22s and -25s and they were great winter tires. The LM-25s mounted on my previous Audi A8L made the car unstoppable in any wintry weather and it was far more tractable than many SUVs during major snow storms.
