Best tire for the money and beyond. Remember that the shaved Toyo RA1 is the standard for many racing classes and a track day favorite most everywhere. It is safe to say that Toyo knows a thing or two about tires.

I know it sounds snotty and stupid, but when it's time for tires and I see the Toyos on the price list going for less than half of what Pilot-Sports, Pirellis, Bridgestones, etc., cost, I just figure to myself "well, you get what you pay for".
Might have to think about those next time around.

I'm glad to know about the Toyos. I have Pilot's on my car now and the rears will need to be replaced this spring/summer. I have done multiple searches and read the tirerack reviews so I didn't get blasted by others for failing to use the search function.
It seems to me that everyone has a differing opinion on tires, although most posts and reviews appeared to point me back to the Pilots. I was not fired up about spending that much on Pilots when they wear out so quickly and I am glad to know that others have had a good experience with the Toyos. (I had a really bad experience with Falken's on my 745i.) All I really want is an incredibly sticky tire that will last forever. That's not too much to ask, is it?

I heard good things about Toyo T1R's.
But I went w/ Goodyear F1 GS-D3. Good grip on dry and plenty of treadwear (280 vs. 220 for PS2). I have them for 5000 miles of medium-to-hard driving and still quiet, good grip (on dry... never tried them on wet) and plenty of treads.
Toyo T1R's seem to have the same treadwear... but apparently, America's Discount Tires don't carry them

Are they really? To be honest, I always write them off because of the price point...

Most AMGs with a staggered set up can wear out a set of tires in the blink of an eye, even the most careful driver will be down to the wear bars @ 12K miles it is just the nature of the beast.
To me fresh rubber is more important, in the case of a high performance car.
BTW Not all tires that fit the E55 have the "M" rating (higher load) the Kumhos do.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...peed_rating=(Y)
Now on my 430, Bridgestone Turanza$$$ ($1400). rotate every 5K miles and I'll get 5 years 35+ K smooth quiet safe miles.

I just put a set of Toyo T1r's on.. based on feedback here and the price point.
Wow! what a difference from those horrible droning Conti's... The car is smooth and quiet like it should be...
Car handles a lot better that it did (probably cos the Conti's were down to the wear bars!)... and feels secure and well stuck to the road... I don't worry when the "orange triangle of fear" lights up any more.
America's Tire can get them for you (special order). IIRC I paid $1064 for a full set, out the door WITH warranty.

Well, I had issues with the older version, but now I'm thinking it was due mostly to wrong offsets and poor alignment... I really loved the tires though... they are soft though and wear QUICK...
