MB Warranty Question
My question....if you own let's say a 04 that is still under warranty, can you extend the warranty before the warranty period ends to 100k? The MB dealer told me no, but I keep seeing these cars with warranty until 100k. I understand if you buy a CPO they can extend the warranty an additional 2 yrs or 24k(I understand I can buy a 07 and not have a worry, but don't want to spend that kind of coin
. Is the C55 AMG the same with warranty. Warranty is a big big deal for me. I do not want to go the aftermarket route. I have heard too many horror stories.
It appears that the only way I can get extended warranty is to buy a CPO and extend it 2 yrs or 24k....correct?
Thanks for your help. I couldn't tell if my local MB dealer was shooting me straight or trying to scare me from buying a car from someone else.
The CPO warranty covers everything that the factory warranty covered with only some minor exclusions and no body or interior trim coverage.
If not, then it sounds like for a used car CPO is the only way to go.

7yr/100,000/100 deductible cost me 2,480. I thought that was a great deal. I can give you a contact if you need it. Just PM me........
I know almost every car company hits you up before your warranty expires to extend, but again the local MB dealer said AMG's are different. I hope he is wrong b/c I will not own an AMG that is not covered under MB warranty. Just my two cents.

basically...
Normal Warranty = 4yrs or 50K miles..
CPO car = whatever's left of Normal PLUS additional 12 months limited added on AFTER Normal expires (if there was any left). to max limit of 5yrs or 100K miles.
Then the option to add extended (time based) warranties on top (12 or 24 months) to a limit of 100k miles.
No Deductible for any of the MB programs.
For example... my '04 purchase was in Sept '07 with 42k miles. It was a CPO car and I added the 2 year extended on top.
My vehicle in service date was mid March '04... so... I still have coverage on the Normal warranty til mid March '08 (soon! -just had a new trunk closer and Dynamic seat air pumps replaced FOC), then the CPO warranty kicks in til March '09, then after that the Extended warranty kicks in 'til March 2011.
(or 100K miles).
Well worth the cost. ( for the AMG it was $3995 ) and it's transferable on a private sale basis too.

If a car was CPO'd and the owner traded in through NON-MB dealer and you buy the car from this dealer, the extended warranty is supposedly voided... BUT, I've heard some cases that MBUSA did not know or was not informed that the car was sold via NON-MB dealer, hence, extended warranty is still intact.
If a car was CPO'd and the owner traded in through MB dealer and you buy the car from this dealer, the dealer usually keeps it CPO. Therefore, you should still get the extended warranty. But as you must know already, the price is usually higher... so the bottom line is it's not 100% free to you

If you buy a CPO car through private party, no worries... the extended warranty will be transferred.
If you buy a non-CPO car (either from private party or dealer) but still have warranty in place, you usually could purchase an extended warranty through 3rd party. I'd suggest you buy from the dealer you would bring your car in for service.... just to avoid potential hassles when claiming the warranty at that dealer.
Just a note, if the car has more than 50K or no more warranty, it would be extremely hard, if not impossible, to buy an extended warranty.
So basically, if you buy a non-CPO car from a private party or dealer with remaining warranty....you get the remaining warranty then you will have to go aftermarket for anything after that???

Another question, what if you are leasing a car and you purchase the car for the residual. Can this car be made a CPO?
