Well.. looks like we figured out why Jim's car was stuck at 545rwhp and couldnt make more than 12.5psi of boost with a 175mm pulley..
Lookey lookey what we found....
This is some scarey stuff, and we are just glad that JakPro's car didnt suffer any serious problems.. Compression check came out ok.. no bottom end damage.... CLOSE CALL!
I guess having a properly working S/C will resolve this problem.. New S/C is on the way... 15psi here we come..

That is the underside of the supercharger. A large chunk has broken off. It's toast.
Good news is that if it stayed in one piece then the intercooler would have caught it. If it splintered into lots of lots of pieces.....:eek ::eek :
Compression test is still good so not hyperventilating yet.

We were going nuts trying to figure out why his car wasn't making the proper boost.. we were looking everything over to figure out where a restriction could be..
The last thing was to remove the VRP Gen 1 80mm TB inlet with the welded plate and put on the new 1 piece inlet.. as Vadim & George were tearing it apart, they did a once-over on the S/C and saw the chunk missing...
We are just glad that we went through the car and did find this because who knows how much worse it could have been in the future if this went undetected.
Hopefully this will give us the lost horsepower we were looking for.
Stay tuned...

WoW
Now that was close. Had it been run back Home , we would never know what the root cause of the low performance output issue had started. Very good root cause analysis. Good show from the VRP cali Group.

I don't think we will ever really know. Most people I polled today believe something passed through the supercharger and damaged the fin but like RFLOW said, it would have just exploded.
Pretty sure we will never really know so just gotta move forward.

I agree with Rflow, but just to be sure.Check the inside of the rubber Y-pipe that connects to the mouth of the TB.Look to see if you are missing one of the internal metal rings that are used to keep the rubber pipe from collapsing. It has been seen where they pop out of their recessed grooves. Its from squeezing the y-pipe hose when installing or removing the y-pipe.Though I doubt it would make it to the rear of the rotor with out exploding first, its still a thought.

Root Cause
You guys have got a lot of NERVE. I gotta Love your funny Comedic puns. It really lightens what could have been some serious pain. You know "root" canal after a tooth extraction.

At this point I am still evaluating why it happened.
We never did find the broekn piece, so what happened to it is still a mystery. There is no sign of any metal going through any of the cylinders, compression is good and fairly even accross. There is no damage to the intercooler.
I will use boroscope to look into the cylinders tomorrow, but I think we are OK.

2004 E55 AMG and 2003 C320 4Matic Miss my 993 Turbo above!!
We need a team of forensic scientists to take a look and evaluate. Can you look at the edges of the break to tell how long ago it took place. Everything around it looks tinted and the break looks pretty fresh and new. Is it in an area where its sealed and it wouldn't get contaminated.............
Jim, shouldn't this have been noticed when you shipped the engine parts to VRP for Porting and HEads?
WOW.....What an unfortunate chain of events...........

That could only mean the piece was removed or fell out during the first TB install or head removal. Makes you wonder if the blower could have been dropped and something hit the rotor.
Jim, I hate to say this but I would bet that somewhere down the line someone who worked on your car knows about the missing piece jmo.

Jim, I hate to say it too, but I agree with Rflow. I know anything is possible as we all seen crazy stuff happen before, but I just don't see how that big chunk would 1- break off and then 2- not cause any damage...
Man, you were closer to the 5.7L than you thought!!
F-In Props goes out to Vadim & George!!
