2003 E55
Keyless Go Problem. How is the driver's door handle removed on a 2003 E55.

I just purchased a 2003 E55 yesterday and I love it. I have a 2001 E55 and wow! what a difference. So much more of everything.

The keyless go does not unlock the door from the driver's handle but works fine on the rest of the doors. I read somewhere (on the CLS forum) that the door handles can sometimes act up. Anyone have this same problem with a W211? Are the handles easy to remove?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

junk
removing the door is a rediculous amount of work requiring 3 or 4 specialty tools.

+1. Not what you want to hear, but this is a trip to the dealer.

Yeah, I was afraid of that but I have a bunch of door panel removing tools so I might just attempt it when I have some time...

Actually its very simple. There is a t20 (torx) bolt that comes front the inside of the door to the back of the door lock tumbler. Loosen that and the tumbler comes strait out. then the handle slides out to the right. Literally a 60 sec. job. Also, somtimes the kg handle has a connector on the end of it, and it will come loose.

Thanks Tony.

I know on the older cars they were super easy to remove. Does the door panel need to be removed?

No, Its just like the older ones- The screw is hidden behind the door seal- there will be a little opening for the torx driver.

My KG has also started to act up lately and it is also on the drivers side door only. My problem has been intermittent. Since my car is under warranty I would just let the dealer worry about this but I'm sure next time I take it in it will be working perfect.
I just put a new battery in the key about 3 or 4 months ago but I guess it would be worth a try.

If your kg works from the other four points (l/r, r/r, r/f doors and trunk) then its not your remote. So when it acts up on you, check the other points- this will help out the tech to diagnose the problem.

Please share if/when you take it to the dealer as to what the outcome is. Maybe if they tell you what they fixed or replaced we can do the same. Thanks!

Thanks for all of the help. I switched the rear handle to the front (temporarily) and it started to work properly. The rear handle is slightly different, otherwise I would have just moved the defective handle to the rear door. A new one is on order and should be here early next week.

Thanks again,
Steve

Where did you order the door handle? Through dealer or online?

This thread is about 9 years old, I would not expect a response from anyone on this thread just an FYI to be cautious of when the last post date occured...

It will keep you from wasting your time

Still a very common problem. The dealer is typically list price, it's much cheaper online. Somewhat limited to OEM dealers though as there really isn't an aftermarket maker of this part. Prices vary depending on what color your car is. Here's a couple places, one is cheaper, but charges shipping, the second is a bit more but offers free shipping. If you're getting multiple items, paying for shipping can be cheaper. Also included a link to a DIY on replacing the handle.

Each door has an ECU in it apparently. Both my 55s have a door like that. Ebay has these for sale. I have held off until I can see where it is and how to R&R.
