I just got a new set too. I'm guessing they're about $8,000. Am I close?

Its a recall for some but not all 55k cars. The production date of the cats is what makes it defective or not. I do not know the time frames but the part numbers on the cats will let your tech know if they need to be replaced.

These parts have a lifetime warranty anyway, right?
So I don't think I need to push my dealer to change them before my warranty period expires lest they fail down the line.

If there is 1 lesson we should learn from his thread is that you MUST be friends with your tech, the shop foreman, and your service writer. I am lucky enough to have friendships with all of the above so mods dont really make a difference to them. If you are going to have a modded car you need to remember they are the ones who will turn you in for modifications and mark that status 8 on your VMI.
If you have a massive failure you need to get the parts off the car asap and then tow it in. I know of plenty of cars being fixed with mods and its just luck of the draw unless you take the time to get to know whos in charge.
In this case its a recall for defective parts. Its an issue regardless of what you have as an exhaust. So if your tech and the team leader/shop foreman dont care about the exhaust its going to happen.
Before people with all 04's get excited its not for all cars. There is a range of production dates on the cats themselves that warrants a replacement. Some are fine.
Like I said my car got a whole lot quieter after the replacement and some people might not like that idea!
