6.2L Twin Turbo Confirmed by AMG insider
personal opinion:=========================================
Well.. the 2 year run of NA 6.2L probably will be over next year around this time.. (my opinion)
By the next series of auto shows we will probably see a new W212 with this engine.. just in time to compete with Audi and probably BWM new turbo engines.
I say the 6.2L will raise power to about 575hp and 525lbs torque but power will be acheived at lower rpm levels and probably raise MPG's another 15 to 20%.
Also the MCT has been tested at the Edmunds site with the new SL63.
Dream scenerio: E63 TT with MCT! and 24mpg's on the highway!!

Mercedes-Benz's new Black Series roadster will be based on the SL65 AMG, shown.

If you had any doubts that Mercedes-Benz intends to boost the sporting credentials of its facelifted SL roadster, you don't have to go any further than its upcoming SL65 AMG Black Series.
The two-seater is set to make its world debut at the German Grand Prix in July. Based on the SL65 AMG, the latest of AMG's Black Series models follows the route taken by the SLK55 AMG and CLK63 Black Series cars, with major changes to the mechanical package and bodywork--all aimed at boosting performance to a level that promises to see it challenge the 650-hp, supercharged 5.4-liter V8-powered McLaren-built SLR 722.
Details of the new Black Series car are scarce, though insiders indicate it gets a series of lightweight carbon-fiber panels and a fixed roof that brings additional rigidity to the body structure. Under the hood lurks a reworked version of the SL65 AMG's twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine, tuned to deliver in the vicinity of 680 hp.
"We could have easily got 720 hp without any significant modifications. In the end, though, we decided to dial it back," said an insider privy to the new car's development.
Separately, Mercedes-Benz's AMG division is planning to add twin turbochargers to its 6.2-liter V8. However, the new development is not about raising power, according to well-placed AMG insiders. Rather, the addition of turbochargers will accompany the introduction of direct injection, helping to boost efficiency and lower fuel consumption.
"There will be a slight increase in power, but really it's all about creating optimal conditions for the introduction of direct injection," a source said.

Latest I heard is that "The Twins" are coming, but will be introduced in the next generation SLR which would make sense.
How far down the food chain it falls is anyones guess. I say not far judging on recent "Save The Earth" press releases from AMG.
Diesels and Hybrids are pretty much in our future unless AMG is playing rope-a-dope and drops the bomb on everyone.
I really REALLY regret not mounting a letter campaign to AMG beggin for twin turbs. If enough of us squeaked, they would have listened. That was a year or so ago...too late now.
****edit, Just read the info you posted a 2nd time and I liked the sneaky "NOT to raise power, but to improve efficiency" on the addition of the twin turbs. Maybe Benz is gonna hand us the twin turbs and wink at us, "Now don't you guys go tweaking this ECU...if you do, you could end up with an Earth killing 700hp understand!!!!" Ohhhh, this could be getting interesting.

I hope 63 guys don't take it that way.. The 63 NA will be a classic.
this gives me hope, that AMG is looking at the whole package. Power and Efficiency.
Even if output is only stays the same.. we all know that raising boost will not be an issue.

but with CAddy breathing down AMG, Audi RS already boosted, M probably raising displacement or adding turbos (not sure of the current rumors)
I'm not sure if they can wait 2 years.. a bit late to the party
09 has to be the year (MY2010) to introduce the CLS,E with this power plant.
just my opinion.

Actually, I'd prefer to keep the car. I had it for a year now, and of course, I'll keep it 2 more years until the new AMG comes out. And since I never buy the 1st year model (I like to give Mercedes a year or two to iron out all the bugs), then I'll have had my car for 4 to 5 years. I think 4 to 5 years is a reasonable time to keep the car (despite the depreciation) given that I ENJOY every minute of it. I enjoy when I race it, when I go pick up gorceries in it, or even when I'm just driving it for fun ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

with my current financial situation and outlook.. won't be able to purchase a 100k for probably another 3 to 5 years.
By the time the W212 comes out.. I'll barely be able to afford the E63 as we know it now... maybe a C63 new.
so.. even If I wanted to get the twin turbos..I have to wait even longer!

I won't be getting the new E63 until a year or two after it's release. I want to give AMG a chance to fix all the bugs reported by the first generation buyers.
